Lady Anna was born the first and only daughter to a royal family who, for as much as they tried, could not have a boy, the logical successor to the throne.
At age 18 Anna was still single, all her suitors would turn down on her and rumors began to roam in the community. Whatever the reason, Anna grew sullen and introverted, while her father grew impatient. (...)
One night, while all were sleeping, silence was broken by a muffled scream coming from one of the rooms. Nobody heard it, or nobody cared.
Weeks later, they found out Anna was pregnant, but the mood in the kingdom was far from joyful. Anna never spoke a word again after that night, and was imbibed in a permanent slumber, refusing to eat and even clean herself. All of which the Queen made do to her by force, keeping Anna from dying.
Seven months passed this way, and tension was growing in the royal house. The common gossip was that the princess Anna had gone insane, but nobody knew what happened, and even worse, no one knew who was the father of her baby. About which some assured she had relations with the devil.

At night, when nobody was around, Anna would sit in front of the mirror, and start pulling off her hair, one by one.
And with a needle she managed to sneak in, she used the hair as thread, and started sewing her lips together. Anna wasn't thinking anymore, she was just reacting out of disgust, of sickness, but lacked the will to violent herself or any other being. She was simply letting die.

Horrified after discovering this, the servant told the Queen, and they rushed into her room. The Queen was shaking, for the first time in her life, took a look at the being sitting on the bed, the being that used to be her daughter and left, just as fast as she arrived. It was too much for her.
The King muttered something that nobody understood, and refused to even look at his daughter.

Nobody watched over Anna again, except for a couple servants that refused to leave her alone, due to the love they had for her since her very birth. But their stories and dedication were not enough. They could not bring her back, and her time was almost over.

This portrait was commissioned to a relatively unknown artist, the only one who wasn't scared enough to refuse the job.
The morning after it was complete, they found Anna lying in her bed, pallid, lifeless, and covered in blood. The head of a baby peeking, immobile between her legs.

The throne of Reccia never met it's heir.
