On the Planet of Teal there is a mystical place where two oceans meet by two cliffs joined by a natural bridge which is called "The Skygate".

Here the undercurrents are very strong and a little dolphin is being swept towards the rocklittered shore.

Colors: Hobbyline colored beewax
Tools: lithe small iron + knife as scraping tool
Time: took me about 5 hours to finish
Paper: Special laquered paper card thick quality

Encaustic is a special wax-art technique. I melt colored waxblocks and apply the molten and hot allmost liquid wax onto a special sealed paper card by using a small lithe iron.

While ironing, the colors blend and create totally new shades and tones. With the sole, the tip or the rim of the hot iron I’m able to create all kinds of different patterns and designs.

With enough experience one may even iron fine details such as plants, buildings, animals... onto the card. By scraping away hardened access wax later on, outlines can be created and highlights.

When the wax has cooled and hardened I scraped away wax with a kitchen knife to reveal the white card beneath in order to create highlights and details like the foam of the waves, eyes + outlines of the dolphin.
