A superb capture and contrast study. The strong contrast really gives this capture an intensity which is only enhanced by the use of black and white. In addition the sharpness of the facial features creates a specific visual focus, adding grace and power, with a hint of danger to the image. Its shots like this where a good telephoto really earns its keep.
In general I like the composition as the dark featurless background makes this magnificent animal really stand out. There just aren't any distractions.
One thing I noticed is that the area around the forhead and between the ears appear to have white halos around the dark details. I also noticed this on the right leg. This might have been caused by over use of sharpening software. While I did find this to be something of a distraction, I really liked the shot.

Sadly I don't know much about photography, else I'd leave a proper critique, but I do think it's a great shot.
