Description More concept art for the comic, just playing around with shapes. Kind of a Flash Gordon retro type design. I've been studying technical drafting. Scott Robertson's book is awesome if you want to get better at that kind of thing. Micron pens in a moleskine sketchbook.

The older work of Tony O'Donnell shows a lot of space adventure stuff  - galactic cruisers and such.

You say you've been studying technical drafting, but this, while it's tight, looks eye-balled, not constructed mechanically. 

Tips:

1) To better reveal the true shapes of the subject, break the silhouette where one form hides another.  Here, for example, the shape of the huge delta wing conceals the body cylinder, which could be revealed by turning the point of view so that the nose of the cylinder passes the wing's outline.  (Yes, the cylindar is fully revealed in depth view, but silhouette communicates this information immediately.)

2) If you don't want to use a mechanical construction from the ground up, but simply want to tighten up a freehand drawing with proper perspective, you can put box it.  A) do the free hand.  B) draw a box around it.  C) put the box in proper perspective using an horizon line, vanishing points and perspective lines.  D) if necessary, subdivide the subject with more boxes.  E) align the parts of your blocked out subject with the sides of the box, then round out the surfaces.

I've been studying technical drafting... but I ain't doing it. Especially since this is a sketchbook. The type 2 you mentioned is what I've taken away from it, more about proper construction techniques than trying to achieve perfection, building a box is super helpful and even though it's an extra step I've found it actually speeds the work up because you spend way less time correcting mistakes. I really should have changed the angle or the wing shape when I saw how the lines intersected... but I didn't.

Ha! That would be pretty ironic No, if you look at the nose there's a panel on either side that pops up for the guns to come out for combat situations. When just cruising the guns are recessed for aerodynamic purposes.

Yeah it's designed to fly in atmospheres as well as space, that's why it has wings with ailerons which are pretty pointless in space.

I've been working on the story for like four years? There are 20 something chapters written and I've got the rest of the story arc in my head for when i have time to do some writing again. Should end up being 1200 to 1500 pages.

Thanks! I mainly do hatching with a tiny amount of cross-hatching. I drop a couple pencil lines to keep me on track, the straight lines are pretty easy, the curved ones have to be corrected constantly or you end up with a circle

that's the one, his got a lot of great how tos and stuff on his youtube channel too. the book's awesome though, goes from the very basics all the way to really advanced concept stuff, definitely worth checking out.
