This is a little old, maybe a couple years, I never posted it because it just isn't a finished piece. But I was talking to mutantcomix.deviantart.com/ about the use of salt with ink and watercolor and realized I didn't have any examples of it in my gallery, and the rocks in this are one of my favorites so I figured I'd throw it upRelated content

thanks! it's actually inkwash, which accounts for it's unfinished appearance. it's a very unforgiving medium. i should probably bite the bullet and fill in some of that white space on the left now that there's a digital copy and i don't have to worry about screwing it up.

Did you draw the lines with a brush too? it's a great effect.

Thanks, no the lines are done with a technical pen. I like Microns and Pitts because the ink is archival and waterproof, so they won't fade and if you want to go back in with a wet medium later it won't make them bleed. I used to work with a quill, but after having a couple pieces ruined by a drop of ink deciding it really wanted to be somewhere it shouldn't be, I gave that up, maybe I'll revisit that technique again someday. I mainly posted this piece for the rocks, if you look at them the texture was made by sprinkling salt over the wet ink, I was telling a buddy about it and realized I didn't have any examples in my gallery. It's a really cool technique but I'm a bit leary of it, I've heard the salt can actually degrade the paper over time, some people say you can get a similar effect with sawdust, but I don't exactly have a lot of time for woodworking these days. I'm full tilt boogy trying to get my comicbook done, if you haven't found it yet check it out some time and let me know what you think
