Description

Bog witches, despite their unpleasant and vile nature, are quite cooperative amongst one another, thriving on their ability to mutually parasitize. Yet their are those who have a far more sinister reason to build a coven. While many bog witches find the benefit of mixing there are those who will prey on weaker, smaller, bog witches, absorb their power and in turn grow more powerful themselves. Not all solitary bog witches display this behavior but those who did tend to wear vibrant red masks to display their ferocity and superiority.

Many bog witches will seek these red capped demons in hopes of combining with them and becoming far more powerful. It is believed that the two bog witch temples were built on the backs of such cannibalistic queens.

Awesome! Another creature that reminds me of one of H.P. Lovecraft's stories.

I love the idea that the evil queen witch wears masks to show her ferocity and, unlike the other witches, is sitting above the swamp rather than wallowing through it. However, I'm a little confused as to the marble or metal sphere she's sitting on. What is it exactly? How'd she get it? If it's a another symbol of status then why would she let it touch the swamp? Why not ride atop the backs of her lesser witch slaves and have them carry her and her treasures?

Thanks! The black spheres and shards are magic orbs. They serve many purposes such as housing magic, being a power source, act as weaponry, locomotion etc. They grow and multiply as the witch becomes stronger. While many bog witches will combine, therefore increasing their power reserves, these queen types are more interested in sole power. Their is a pecking order that is established in a parasitic coven so one minute you are in charge of the group but if a more powerful bog witch joins she will take the position. absorbing and consuming less powerful bog witches gets rid of that risk all together and allows the cannibalistic queen to benefit completely. Parasitic covens are all about "mutual benefit" despite their being hierarchy.

Ahh, that explains a lot. Might I make a suggestion though? Depending on how the queen consumes the lesser witches (whether she physically eats them or combines hutches and absorbs them into her being) have the method shown in the image. For example, if she eats them have some of their bones on display on her hutch and if she absorbs them maybe have a face or a hand or two sticking out from her hutch to show she's slowing consuming them.

When I first observed this image I could guess from her attire (the blood red mask and limbs) that she likely was a killer similar to that of the redcaps of fairy lore. However, aside from her large black magic orb there's little to suggest she cannibalizes her own kind and not simply travelers and creatures of the bog (and that was only after you explained the orbs to me).

It's such a great concept I'd love to see to expanded upon even further. Perhaps an image of one of the great queens/monarchs whose hutch became her very own temple in the bog? I image it'd be similar to that of the bog witch causeways but maybe not. Those supposedly had many live witches in them, the monarchs' would only have one.

These are all great suggestions and things I definitely plan on exploring and or already have planned for future images. I try no to over saturate my images with too much information because i find that it can be cumbersome for some viewers and people may not read it at all. So i try to create images that are "soundbites" where i can explain the specific image by itself and then later expand upon something with a new image. A great example of that is my 1st bog witch image and then expanding upon their story with the bog temples. But once again thanks for all the input!

Fantastic design and backstory!
I especially like the ball-wheeled spin on the classical chicken-legged Baba Yaga house
