Cleatus was built in 1925 by Baldwin Locomotive Works originally for the Sierra Railroad Company with his older twin Beaureguard. However it turned out that Baldwin made a mistake. When Baldwin called the Sierra to tell them that their locomotives were done, they were surprised to find out the Sierra Railroad only ordered one locomotive, so Beauregard was sent to the Sierra Railroad while Cleatus was sold to the Erwin & Sheldon Railroad Company, which ran from Erwin, Tennessee where it connected with the Clinchfield Railroad and down to Sheldon, North Carolina where it connected with the K&A. He was mostly seen haling freight trains but could be seen hauling passenger trains as well. In 1931, the Erwin & Sheldon Railroad went bankrupt due to the depression and the K&A bought the line and it became the Erwin & Sheldon division. Cleatus and his ex-E&S colleges then became K&A engines and worked on the E&S division until the end of steam on the K&A in 1962.

Cleatus was then sold to a collector who later donated him to the Transportation Museum in Spencer. He wasn't seen much, due to being in storage. In 1994, Lucas came down to the museum and looked over Cleatus. He found out Cleatus was in very good condition and bought him. He even had the museum restore him. In 1995, Cleatus was ready to go back to work and now today he can still be seen doing the very same jobs he did during the steam era.

NOTES:
- Cleatus is based on Sierra Railroad #34. It's now awaiting restoration at the Railtown 1897 museum in Jamestown, California.
- Cleatus' whistle is a Western Maryland 5 chime. (www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-f5KO… )
- Cleatus is currently the only surviving ex-Erwin & Sheldon Railroad steam locomotive we know.
