Description Hey guys

Guess what? I drew Stanley in his Mid Sodor Railway livery. He wore this livery from 1919 - 1930 (that's when he was turned into a stationary boiler after an accident which damged his side rods)

About the Character:
Stanley was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA in 1917 for the British War Department and was one of 495 built by Baldwin from 1916 - 1917 to work on the War Department Light Railways in France. After the war in 1919, Stanley was sold to the Mid Sodor Railway Company to replace Smudger as their #2. However Stanley had a problem, when the War Department, whose gauge was 1 ft 11 1/2 inches, sold him to the MSR, they didn't regauge him to their guage, which was 2 ft 3 inches. Because of this, he sometimes had a tendicy to derail. However he still worked his hardest and was a valued member of the MSR.

However in 1930, Stanley was taking some trucks down from the mines at Cas-Ny-Hawn when he saw a flock of sheep had strayed onto the line. He tried to stop, but the trucks began to push him and Stanley derailed, damaging his siderods and turning his valve gear into a steel pretzel. After this, the manager decided to turn him into a stationary boiler behind the shed. In 1940, Stanley was moved to the mines at Cas-Ny-Hawn to pump water out. But bad luck struck again in December 1946 when he broke down and the mines flooded, trapping him in the mines for the next 65 years.

Years later, Duncan, Skarloey Railway #6, was helping some preservationists look over the remaining part of the Mid Sodor Railway in order to turn it into a hertiage railway. He accidently bumped a truck, which flew into a mine shaft and bumped into Stanley. Stanley was then hauled out of the mine and was sent to Crovan's Gate Works to be restored. After a trial, he now works on the Skarloey Railway as their #15.

Stanley belongs to the Railway Series.
