Description Another OC of mine.

This is Norman (named after my late grandfather, Norman Hyde, 1941 - 2009). He was built by Baldwin in 1903 for the Southern Railway as their #542, class J. He is mentioned in Chapter 4 of my 8th book, The Good Ol' Days. In that chapter, Norman has served the Southern for 50 years and is due for retirement. He convinces his friend and pupil, Cooper, to run away to the Knoxville & Asheville Railroad to avoid getting scrapped. In 1954, Norman finally retired and was placed on display at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, North Carolina. In 1991, he was transferred to the North Carolina Transportation Museum where he stands today on display.
