Beautiful, Bumio, really
Your colours of choice really do create a cave-y atmosphereIt does look like this is only the grand entrance and it's possible to get a lot deeper into the cave-complex. That's because of the very bright light from outside the cave, which has influence on the overal colourscheme. If you'd prefer a more deep-underground cave like look, maybe you should use dyes of cold grey, and maybe some green here and there to indicate moisture.
(There where moisture is, cavedwelling mosses can grow)
I love caves and their colourful beauty^^

(Please note that non of the things I said were to critisize your work, I really like it and couldn't possibly do it better then you, it was just me thinking out loud about colours)

hey it's alright, i wouldn't mind you giving me a critique, i even asked for it in the comments section

thank you, those colours seem interesting, i might try them next time if i'll paint any cave concept.
thank you

first of all , this is a very good painting.

The two things I do not like is first the bleached out color, I just feel that the color is bit desaturated and second the over emphasis on the texture, especially in the upper left corner it bothers me a bit, it is like you stamp an entire texture over the entire surface of the painting.

Still I cannot but envy your skill...

8/10

Vindrea In reply to thekilon [2009-07-05 21:09:19 +0000 UTC]

yeah i see what you mean.
i'm not happy about the final result either, and especially about the colours, i feel they are missing something, more variety of them and contrast maybe.
and about textures, i love when works are overloaded with them, but for that you need to know how to control them, i couldn't and it does look like stamped

thank you for your comment, i'll pay more attention next time

Still I have to say that I love the atmosphere, how small the human looks inside the vastness of nature (=cave).

Afterall I love caves , there is something so mystical about them , I wish I could illustrate as good as you can here. And we have many caves in my country (afterall 95% of Hellas is mountains)

I also like very much how you capture the bounce of light on the Caves Texture and complex geometry , especially near the entrance, it adds alot of realism on your painting.

thank you
i loved your comments here, pointing good and bad parts, very helpful.

i love caves too, there is something mystical about them, i always imagine that there are creatures deep in the darkness of them.
you're lucky that you've got so many caves there, at my place we have zero of them

thekilon In reply to Vindrea [2009-07-06 12:50:39 +0000 UTC]

Well in case you need an inspiration , on of our best caves, is DIROS CAVE, which a 6,5 km long complex of save tunnels , some of them are underwater and some if is partialy underwater making access only by boat. The water is so crystal clear that what it look like 5 meters deep is 30 meters.

This a small video sample of the beauty of this cave.

looks like everything is made of wax!
it's gorgeous have you ever visited it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

thekilon In reply to Vindrea [2009-07-08 10:53:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I have visited it (15 years ago more or less )and it look 10 times better than it does in this video. For strange reason I could not find good photos and videos for this cave.

The reason why everything looks like it is made by wax is the fact that most of the cave is underwater , probably something to do with the fact that this happended rather recently .

Any way , I wish I had some photos to show you, there was this chamber that was huge like the one you depict in your painting, it was called "throne chamber" if I recall correctly , you would love the rock formations there there were Huge and amazing sculptures.

Probably I will revisit it again and take some photos and show it here (if photos allowed, the flash of the camera is considered harmful for the rock formations)

Did you intentionally create a face off center left when viewed?
I think the colors are perfect for a cave that large and with the sun beaming into it. I at first thought it was a photo, till I read your comments. ( total time elapsed; 2seconds. )

Regardless of intent, I think it is awesome.

Thank you for letting me know. I really hate to think I am constantly seeing faces in things. Ever since I walked on a beach in Maui, and came across a Chinese graveyard washed into the sea, I have been haunted. I am slowly starting to believe I am just crazy and not cursed.

Yadow In reply to RonCB [2009-07-06 01:55:49 +0000 UTC]

I'm insane so I notice faces in the weirdest places, so don't count off curse just yet!

But seriously, that just means youre creative.
