Description It has been a long time since my last post here, so I put this newly finished painting of my puppy.
He is a true social media-dog, because we found him on facebook. The little 2months-old was kicked out to the street in winter, 2 years ago. Fortunately, a nice couple brought him home, but being unavailable for keeping him, they put his photo on facebook, where my sister saw him, and it was love at first sight. Since then, his career rises permanently with an own cook and portrait painter.
Hope you'll like it.

What medium was it painted with? Oil or acrylic?

I'm glad you like it!  It's oil on canvas. The very first underpainting is with acrylic, you can see it on the background, the yellow of the gears. I used metal gold and copper for those. Well, the pic looks somehow better in real life than on photos, don't know why.

Oh, I know that problem, it always looks better in real life ;-;
But very interesting to use acrylic and oil colors, the most artists tend to use only one medium (me included

It's quite useful, I just could recommend it, if you wanna painting with oil. I prefer oil because its effects and colors, but the drying period could be veery long. Acrylic underpainting can speed up this process. But beware, it can't go reverse. You can paint on acrylic layer with oil, but can't use acrylic on oil. They don't like each other in this lineup.

Thanks for the tips, I didn’t know that acrylics don’t work on oil (good thing I didn’t try that yet ) Do you know if it works if the oil color is already dry?

Do you have any experience with those mediums that speed up the drying process of oil colors? That is something I can recommend, cause I for myself hate using acrylic since the colors don‘t blend as well as oil colors do. But you most likely know about that already, you seem to have a ton of experience with the different colors.

I’m happy that you found them useful.   Errh…I dont know, haven’t tried this way yet. In the cases of oil paintings you must wait 6 months for completely dry. If your painting style is with thin layers (not impasto) it would seems that the surface is already dried, but no. The paint under that is still wet.

No, I havent tried these mediums with oil yet. To be honest, I didnt really see oil mediums in the stores of my country, just for acrylic.  I tried the slowing mediums with acrylic paints, but I’m not really satisfied with them. It still dries superfast.

Yeah, the same here with them. Thanks, you’re cute.  Do you know what would be cool? Pouring painting with acrylics. I found this technique a few months ago, and since then I’m eager to try.

Do you know it?

I couldn‘t find the drying medium in the stores either, so I bought them in the internet. I‘m currently using „Liquin“ from Winsor & Newton, it speeds up the drying process but it still won‘t dry as fast as acrylics do.

Yeah I know the technique, it looks really fun to do, but I guess it is not my piece of cake, I‘ve never been comfortable with abstract art xD
But it would be awesome to see them on your DA page ;D

Thanks, you are really cute too <3
