Appearance|
Naya'il is a brown cat. Two things stand out the most about her: Her curled ears and short tail. These are due to her breed, and are genetic, and shared with her brother. She has a sloping forhead and a powerful, muscular body that is coated in long, thick fur. Her hind legs are ever so slightly longer than her front.  She is of a sturdy build and added onto the thick, fluffiness of her fur this can give her the overall appearance of a very large, almost fat, cat. However, when she gets wet it is easy to see that this isn't the case- Naya'il is, in fact, quite thin for a cat of her breed.
Her fur has an interesting coloration, inherited in part from her grandparents. A creamy base layer with dark tabby stripes - at least, on her rump they're dark. The closer the stripes get to her shoulders the lighter they become until they are only just discernable from her base coat. They form a Cassic Tabby pattern. On her face, the marks darken again, spreading beneath and between her eyes in an almost pointed form, and growing even darker where stripes play out. Her ears, too, are colored in a dark brown hue, and the little tuft between them gets darker as it extends out.
Embodied in her dakr face are two perfectly-functioning eyes of a pale, icy grey-blue. Her nose is capped with a whiteist mark that trails up to the tabby "M" Mark on her forehead, and caps her eyes as well.
Naya'il sports three scars, all on her right hind leg. They are the same color as her nose and paw-pads. Several other scars would show were she shaved, but only these three were deep enough for fur to not re-grow over them.

Personality
Envious | Ambitious | Stubborn | Loyal | Outwardly Friendly/Deceptive | Empathetic | Vengeful

Envious
Having grown up most of her life being told that others were better than her, Naya'il has become a rather envious she-cat. Anyone who interacts with her friends, who has something she doesnt, wh oeven so much as seems to be slightly better than her at anything, she will be green with jealousy over - going so far as to even hate that other cat. She can't stand the idea of other cats doing what she can't - providing services for those she calls friends if they are outside the group, using skills she can't, getting tattos, all of these things make her ridiculously envious.

Ambitious
Naya'il wants to be the best at what she does, she wants to prove that she can live up to everyones expectations and that she will never, ever let anyone down. When she can't, she gets angry, but when she can, well, no cat will ever see Naya'il happier than she is in that moment. She, like any other cat, has dreams and goals she is determined to reach for herself, but this doesn't necessarily mean she wants to be a leader or the head of anything. While she wouldn't necessarily mind that, Naya would be perfectly content to step aside and let someone else do that job so long as she got important tasks to satisfy herself with.

Stubborn
Hard-headed, unrelenting, the more you push against Naya, the harder she'll push back. She doesn't like to even give an inch of anything, and she will never, ever back down. Challenging her viewpoints only makes her dig her heels in harder, even if they're based on a foundation that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. She's not the kind of cat to relent when speaking about anything, really, and once she sets her mind to do something, be it catch that very pariticular peice of prey or convince someone that she does have the right point and they're very stupid do not think the same, she will not ever give up, though she may get temporarily distracted by something else.

Loyal
When Naya'il considers someone a close friend or feels like she owes a cat a debt, she will stand by them through everything, even if she beleives they are wrong. That being aid, if two of her comrades, or two of the cats she finds herself claiming loyalty to, get into some sort of dispute, she has a tendancy to side with the one that is of a higher rank, if and only if that are equally ranked, she will side with the one who she agrees with the most. She will do anything for those she is loyal to, from the smallest, most mundane tasks to throwing herself over them as a tree falls - she will utterly and completely give up her life for them if the need arises.

Outwardly Friendly/Deceptive
Despite her envious nature, Naya gives off the impression of being a rather friendly cat - outwardly, at least. She's a cat that generally seems somewhat cheerful, open and kind towards others, though the cat inside may be of a completley different manner. She appears calm but open, htough in reality she doesn't share very much about herself, prefering to use her outward friendliness to gain information on the others. She enjoys listening to what others say and while she may make a few snide mental comments as she lsitenst, none of them will reflect on her features, instead they will be a mask of interest in what is being spoken of.

Empathetic
Despite being generally deceptive behind her friendly mask, Naya'il has quite the tendancy to be empathetic to the feelings of others. She finds herself having the ability to share the feelings of others, whether or not she's experienced them before, and often seeks to comfort them if they are sad or upset, assuming they are a cat she generally cares for. She is, in fact, quite sensitive to the emitons of others as well, not necessarily able to read their thoughts but most certainly able to understand their emotions, whether or not they open their mouths to speak. This is a trait she's always had, ever since she was small, and as more and more of her life changed, it continued to develop.

Vengeful
One thing that is much ingraned in Naya's mind is the need for vengance. Crossing or double-crossing her or any of her friends is not a good idea, she will take it personally - even if it it is not meant that wat - and get back at a cat. Whether it be messing with them mentally or causing some sort of physical harm, Naya will not relent until she is satisfied that they have paid the price of their wrongs, and what she considers to be wrong may not be the same as what others do. Because she has some issues managing her anger, this can be much more of an overreaction that some cats might deem proper, assuming they deem any of it okay at all, but she will not give up until she has been completley satisfied.

Backstory

Part I

Akior and Iyrt

Long ago, a war came into the lives of many cats. They were torn with decisions and which side to stay on, or if they should even be on a side. With the war came many deaths, and many new exiles. The exiles were those who didn't agree, or committed some kind of crime against the wrong side. This was the case of a young couple whom were expecting their first litter. Akior and Iyrt were confused on what they should do. They were scared, and still young at 21 moons old, both from Air-Tribe. They had never expected to have kits, and soon after Iyrt learned she was expecting, cats started dying, and so, the two of them fled. It was a terrifying time as they met up with others who had left, all who didn't agree with what was happening. The group very quickly left the land they had known as home, and continued to travel north, Iryt only growing larger as her pregnancy progressed.

At some point, they reached the end of the land, only to be met by water. Akior and Iryt stayed here with their new friends, waiting for her kits to come. Just around the time her two kits came, the water also seemed to part, creating a bridge. The group was curious about what lay on the other side, and so, they gathered up the new mom and the newborn kits, and crossed. At the other side was a new land.

Travelling further inland, a few years passed by. Not all the same cats were with them, as some had passed, and some had come. All kept with their beliefs of the Spirits, remaining diligent with rituals and how they should act. This is also how they taught their kits. For a second time, Iryt found herself expecting kits. This time, she was much happier and gave birth to a large litter of six. The size of the litter may have been a reflection of the new environment, and how it was safer, or maybe it was her age making it easier to carry more kits. Either way, the six kits grew and gained tattoos when expected, and learned about the tribes and every story that could ever be told.

Nocci and Kalos

Nocci and Kalos weren’t mates in the traditional sense of the word, not at first. In the tribes, well, they weren’t more than apprentices when the war broke out, in fact, Nocci was still a kit.  Driven from the tribes in fear, Nocci and her family found Kalos wandering the neutral lands, and took him with them when they left.  They lived a few months alone together, the little family of five (Nocci had two brothers, her father died in the war), before coming across a larger group of cats, headed beyond. The family quickly teamed up with the group, moving with them until they came across a strange landmark one night.

A bridge.

What had put this there? What was it? No cat knew, but as they crossed over it, the cats decided it must’ve been sent by the spirits as a way to escape the war.

Soon enough, they came to an island, where the cats settled down and made their homes. Several died in those early days, unsure of how to care for themselves without true tribes, unsure of how to protect themselves or heal without their skills. Somehow, though, Nocci and Kalos managed.

It had become a sort-of custom for parents to send off their kits once they received their tattoo, but Nocci’s mom had been far too attached to hers to do so. Nocci and her siblings lived with the group – that had separated into different places though they still lived in the same vicinity – for much longer than normal. When Nocci was about a season-cycle old, though, she and Kalos separated from the group, off to find adventures of their own – as best friends.

They managed well, the two of them, fighting off monsters, hunting for themselves, even making friends with other cats who’d gone out like them. True to the tribes, though – as both Nocci’s mother and Kalos had been Fire-Tribers – the pair kept to the law of the spirits, protecting, hunting, and so on.

When they grew to be about four season-cycle’s old,  Nocci wound up pregnant.  The kits might have been Kalos’s, she wasn’t sure, but he acted the father to them anyways.

Nocci gave birth to a litter of two, one she-cat and a tom. The she-cat died  before the season ended, but the tom grew strong and healthy, and when he turned one season old, the pair decided to name him.  Viro.

This was the name of Nocci’s father, who she had only a very faint memory of.

Part II

Akior and Iyrt constantly told Elswyth and her siblings the stories of the tribes. Elswyth grew up with these stories, completely fascinated by them. She soaked in every word Akior or Iryt told her, and was extremely excited when she got a black Earth-Tribe tattoo. She continued to grow with her siblings, and when she was 2 years old she went off on her own, long after her siblings had.

It was shortly after she left that she met a tom, whom she learned was named Viro.

Viro’s life was good. His parents doted on him and taught him their ways, enforcing a fierce desire to please the spirits. As a young kit, he listened to the stories of the tribes with wide-eyes, hoping that maybe the spirits would look down on him and give his tattoo color, too! At six months, when he received the vine-like mark on his shoulder,  Viro couldn’t have been happier – except, maybe , if it had become blue instead of black.  Reluctantly, his parents sent him out to explore the world, as they had.

He faired better than them, even on his own, interacting with a few cats here and there but never staying with one for long. That was, until he met her.

Viro was only about two season-cycles old when he met Elswyth.

Their love was full of fire and passion, after their first meeting several others quickly followed, He was taken by her and she enchanted by him, and before long the pair were calling one another mates. Within a year of knowing one another, the Elswyth and Viro found themselves expecting kits.

Overjoyed, the soon-to-be parents found themselves relocating, somewhere between each of their families – though Nocci and Kalos were constantly roaming, so it was difficult to pin down exactly where they would be – and built a nest. It was there that the pair welcomed three kits to the world, and it was there that they decided to name the kits after birds.

And thus, Hawk, Ospery and Finch were brought into the world.

Part III

Those first few months in the caves were glorious. Finch was upset, slightly, that she had been named after a songbird while her siblings got bird-of-prey names, but in time she came to accept it and even flaunt it in front of them. Her name was different – she was better, maybe not as big or as strong looking as her siblings at first (though, that quickly changed as she grew), but she was more talented than them at some things, right? She had to be! It was only fair.

She loved her family – especially her father, Viro. Somehow, she had taken a special liking to the tom, and admired him for all that he was worth, envious that unlike Osprey, she wasn’t a tom, too, like their father.

Other than that, though, everything was happy. Finch adored listening to the tales her parents told of the tribes their parents had come from (deciding along the way that she wanted an air-tribe tattoo to sprawl out over her shoulders when the time came), and playing with her siblings as much as she possibly could. Both of the parents began to teach the trio of kits how to hunt and fight around the time of their fourth month of life, explaining that it had become custom to send off the offspring once tattoos appeared and let them learn how to live for themselves. Finch was excited at the possibility- she would get to prove to her parents she could do it!

She grew to admire the spirits as much as her father did, keeping up the customs instilled in him by his parents and looking up at the sky at night, trying to tell if she could see them.

When the day of their sixth month of life camp, Finch woke up excited. Today, or sometime soon, she was going to get her tattoo!  The grey, wing-like marking that spread out on Hawk’s back made Finch both jealous and excited. Her sister got to go to air-tribe, but they got their tattoos! She spent all of that morning trying to find out where hers was, not paying much mind to the silence and the glares of her parents until the day grew hot and the afternoon appeared. What was wrong?

It was then that she noticed Osprey didn’t seem to have any tattoos either.

Part IV

After a quarter of a month had passed, when no tattoos appeared on Osprey or Finch,  Viro turned nasty. He had no wish for kits that had been rejected by the spirits, obviously they were not worthy of the spirits and so not worthy of Viro and Elswyth either. The pair chased off the kits, snarling different forms of rejection in their direction until they seemed to be long gone.

Finch fleed the scene beside her brother, terrified of her parents, hurt by their rejection – and worse, that of the spirits- and angry that Hawk had been given their blessing. What had she done wrong?

As they grew older and continued how to learn to survive, each teaching the other as best they could, Finch grew spiteful, envious. How dare they! Her parents, chase her out, The spirits refuse to mark her. Even Hawk! When they next came across their sister – pampered and well-fed after having been taught so much more by their parents – Finch’s envy turned into rage.

She doesn’t quite remember what happened, but somehow she and Osprey had managed to tear the life from their sisters body. Self-satisfied with that, Finch and Osprey moved on, slowly letting go of their past.

Somewhere along the way, the pair ran into another tattoo-less cat who called himself Grub. Finch and Osprey had managed to chase off the hawk that was attacking him, and the smilarity to the death of thier sister pleased Finch greatly. Strange one, he was, Finch noticed immediately, and he didn't seem to have any knowledge of tribes or tattoos at all! Somehow, he ended up tagging along with them, and Finch found herself thinking of the tom as somewhat of a friend.

Not too long after that, the trio stumbled upon a group of cats in a situation much like their own.

Part V

Tattooless and spited by their families, the Finch found herself fitting into the group rather well. None of the cats there, outside of Osprey, had ever known her first name, as upon entering the group she’d been dubbed Livyatan, and that was who she was, with the new name Livvy decided to cast away her old one, finding so much relish in the new. Her brother, too, was given a new name, Acedia.

Livyatan grew fond of her new ‘family’, pleased that she was not the only one who had been rejected by those she’d once loved. She found herself wary of them all at first, but as time wore on she grew less so, coming to think of them as truly her brothers and sisters. She found herself willing to do anything for them.

One day, as she and Acedia were hunting, they found themselves stumbling upon a familiar face – that of their mother.  All the spite and hatred from before came back in tenfold, and the pair found themselves well matched but able to overcome their mother when the fight finally broke out, teaming up and killing her just as they had their sister – a fact Livyatan let slip as she watched the light leave her mothers eyes. Two. Injured but knowing their father was nearby, Livyatan insisted that they find him, and send him to the same sorry end.

They were successful, but just barely on Livvy’s part. She found herself balancing on the edge of death, living only by will and the knowledge of one of the family who’d learned to care for themselves.

Shortly after this, Acedia left, having decided that his revenge was taken and his sister would not die thanks to the careful attention Grub was giving her, having knowledge of the herbs beforehand.

Part VI

As her healing process continued, something startling happened to the seven.  They encountered a strange being, a cat who called himself a Spirit. Livvy believed it, this cat was all kinds of weird, and she hated him instantly. But he went on to explain that his name was Alriyel, and had been known as the Golden Butterfly, and that he, too, had been born without a tattoo. Now, Livyatan had heard the stories of the Golden Butterfly from her parents, but as he spoke her mind changed about him.  In fact, as he went on, se grew to quite like him. He claimed he was sorry for their loss of their families, and that they had never gotten their tattoos. And then, the best thing happened.

He proposed an offer.

He was in need of their help, and in return, he would gift them each with a bit of his skills and give them a new name.
As Livvy stood next to Grub and got her skills, The Tri-colored cat whispered a new name to her. Naya’il.

It was soon discovered that she had opposing powers with one of the other cats - Gabriel, one of the she-cats - had opposing powers. Thrilled to find herself able to control water and make shields, Naya looked towards the cat she'd known the longest of the group, now called Kahotep. He had a different thing, she noticed. While Naya and Gabriel controlled fire and water, he did light and shadow! Her recovery was completed  far sooner than it would have been, thanks to the older tom and his newfound healing powers. There were two of each, she realised. Two cats who could do things associated with Fire and Water, two for Light and Shadow, and two for Earth and Air, but something was wrong. That only made six. Naya’il turned to one cat who seemed to have been left out – a tom who’d been given the name of Israfil, but had been known to her as Lucifer. He had been designated their leader.

Part VII

Shortly after that, the group came across a landrbridge, and followed two strange cats – with tattoos Naya’il noticed – as they crossed, dispersing quickly  to roam beyond the lands of the tribe-cats until Israfil decreed it was time. Naya wandered with the group sometimes, and alone at others, always trying to keep an eye on the tribes, to look out for Israfil and make sure he was well.

Finally, It was time.

Roleplay Example
From a roleplay between AngelShadowRena and I
[ Yellow-Light | Zarya | The Fallen Birch ]
Shaking her head a little, the mottled feline let out a small purr. ”I’m sure plenty of cats would notice! Especially now that you’re the deputy. I doubt many Air-Tribers are up for the job!” Her whiskers twitched a bit at that, realizing how the words might sound. ” Not that they’re bad, I can’t say that because I don’t know them,  but I mean without you there they’d have to settle for some cat who isn’t you, and clearly you’re the best cat for it! And maybe Air-Tribe is filled with cats who would be perfect for it, I don’t really know, I’ve only met a few. You and Farox and Ross though I think he’s gone now so he wouldn’t even count. And, uh, Right! That orange-air and Pink/Orange-Air that were with you when we got attacked that one time. But I don’t know them very well.”  She grinned sheepishly at the tom as he moved away from her chest,  visibly relaxing her stance. He had such interesting words- and they were kind of like her own. Not the ones she spoke, maybe but he seemed to tell a few words of as tory that echoed her own. Her head tilted curiously at that- she’d never asked the Yellow-air about his past before, had she? And he’d not asked about her own, but that was good. Their friendship had been based on the here and now, not the things that they had done or had been done before they joined the tribes, and perhaps his lack of curiosity towards it was something that had made her respect him all the more.I wonder if I’d be willing to tell him, now? Farox didn’t react as badly as I expected… But Seraphiel doesn’t need to know it, I shouldn’t burden him with that! Instead, the large feline smiled brightly. ”I was like that too! I didn’t know how to talk to cats, or how to make friends. I just liked to talk! And you were the grumpiest cat I’d ever come upon - Wouldn’t even eat the mouse I caught you!” She giggled a little, remembering the event. ”I still like to talk though. If I caught you a mouse now, would you eat it? Or would you still insist that you could catch your on prey?”  Her head tilted in the other direction now, her whiskers stretching forwards. Brother. Two of them! Tufted ears pricking forwards as Seraphiel spoke, Zarya nodded, her words coming hesitantly. ”T….They were.” She mewed quietly, shoving dow the mental image of her father. ”I really hope I do! Ja- My nephew seems like a great cat! He’s the male Silver-Light’s apprentice, so I know he’ll be good at what he does.” She beamed at the tom. ”I’ll get to know him, and you’ll get to know the kits in your tribe, too! And if we visit your other kits, maybe more of Farox’s kits will be there! I know he has more than one. His mate- Oh! You know her. She’s the Earth-Triber we met in the snowstorm! The one with the Furry-o-shish beasts.” There. No need for a name, was there? She’d managed just fine without having to remember Shasta’s kit name.  She smiled as his eyes turned to the charms. ”You’d better. We can’t have the Yellow-Air getting hurt, after all!”  She shook out her fur a little, head twisting side to side and disturbing the necklace that lay amongst her mane-ruff. It certainly was hot, and she was feeling it. ”It certainly was!” Art and Seraphiel had been the two to give her the confidence that she could do the job the spirits picked for her. The necklace, though it had nothing to do with the latter of the two, was a nice reminder of that.
