The armament, exhausts and radiators look like a Vb, and I'd have thought they were all out of service by June 1944, where the "invasion stripes" place the scheme pretty definitely as 4/June/1944 to end of July '44.

They were worried about friendly fire and needed something recognisable from a distance. Very specific measurements on size and placement o c the stripes.

All fighters and medium bombers were painted with those stripes for D-Day invasion.Yes, this is Spitfire.
