Cupid only had a few responsibilities. Most were to himself, and one was to the world. He had somehow managed to fail both.
'I had one job,' he thought as his chin balanced on the palm of his hand, a noticeably irritated expression adorning his features. 'But of course, things are always complicated when they involve humans.'
After all, humans had managed to put him out of work and take all his luscious hair for the sake of their own selfish desires. Without his red hair strands which were used to tie a string of fate between lovers, Cupid could no longer bless their relationship and strengthen their bond.
What did it matter, though? In this day and age, people were making and breaking relationships so fast that Cupid became bald, balder than even the sole of a human foot. His prized possession, those thick red locks, were now gone from his barren scalp and lay scattered across the world in broken strands, as did many of the relationships that Cupid was supposed to look after.
It was only natural, Cupid surmised. He was the deity of love and affection raised by a mother who seduced men to get what she wanted and a father who killed people if he didn't get what he wanted [1]. With such model example parents, perhaps that's why the relationships he blessed always seemed to be the dysfunctional ones.
"Oh the irony." Cupid rolled his eyes and scoffed. He still refused to believe that this fault lay entirely in his upbringing. Humans too were irresponsible creatures, and maybe, just maybe, it was time they take responsibility for their own actions.
"Screw it," he said bitterly as he slammed his arms on the dinner table and got up. "You humans are going to be in charge of your own fickle relationships."
And so Cupid took his bow and arrow as he descended from the clouds to what he considered, "the lowly human-dwelling Earth." He spiced his arrows with a different kind of flavor, not the usual "fall-in-love-with-the-first-person-you-see" bullshit, but rather a concoction that he should have used long ago to expose everyone's true desires.
He tracked down every human in the world and shot them with his magic-coated arrows. Some who were accidentally shot with un-coated arrows ended up in the hospital, but Cupid shrugged it off with a simple "no worry." No one died. Instead, the magic from Cupid's arrows forced human hearts to take on a physical form that embodied their emotions and desires. And Cupid was left satisfied when every human bond was clearly visible to the humans who shared it.
With this satisfaction, Cupid finally retired and returned back to his home in the clouds. Maybe now, he'd have time to finish that sculpture of himself that could rival the statue David by Michelangelo [2] and bestow some real beauty upon the Earth. Cupid laughed. He had no regrets moving on with his life. After all, things like love and relationships had always left a sour taste in his mouth.

Right now, I've given permission to close friends to make heart fibers and I haven't given them many rules because I want to see what they create. Once I've taken their ideas into account, I'll develop a little guideline for MYO heart fibers! The reason why the MYO events are scheduled is because I dont have time to approve of every heart fiber due to medical school ;w; so these events are scheduled around when I'm free!
The reason why close friends have been given permission to create heart fibers is because I trust them to be flexible with me, understand my rules, and create something meaningful. <3 I'm sure you'll do the same, but I don't want to make too many exceptions, so if it's alright, please hold off on it until early August! I'll announce some heart fiber events then! >u< And MYO events are free to join because I don't think expressing yourself should have to cost money or anything <3 //unless you commission me to create one for you cuz that means I have to do some work haha
//to give an example of why I've given permission to only friends -- I realized that some people don't understand that heart fibers are another version of you that exists in another dimension. They're not a pet, nor do you interact with them. So it doesn't make sense to give them a name for example! These are things I'm finding out slowly so that I can fix these issues before allowing the public to make their own!

I can understand that and I'm going to post and tag you on my idea before than because it's not a heart fiber since I didn't realize it was a human like species so it's nothing like what your species is supposed to be. I probably will start actually trying to work on it but I'll leave it in pencil until I have read your guidelines. I read One God Revolution before the species outline so that's why I'm pretty sure my idea isn't a heart fiber but if I'm wrong, I'm fine if you tell me in a comment on it.

I'm sure your idea is fine as long as it doesn't copy specific features of mine -- for example, the cupid backstory, the fibrous connections between heart fibers, etc. For example, having a physical representation of your heart is fine if it were like a heart-shaped bottle or some animal or even a human, but if someone were to create that and then add another layer of my ideas like the hair representing personality/desires, the fibrous connections between these bottles or whatnot, or how it's linked to human health in some way or a representation of visible bonds, then that'd probably become a matter of stealing an idea ;w;

Ok. I don't think it's super similar as well but I would rather make sure you know what I pictured after reading only A One God Revolution just to make sure and so you can decide if you would like to incorporate my idea into your species which did help create my idea. I truly don't mind if you do want to incorporate my idea as part Heart Fibers because as long as you're not being obnoxious about it, why not since it could inspire someone else if it doesn't inspire us.

I think that some people aren't fully aware of the difference between plagiarism and inspiration, but it's something that I'm careful about defining and how I use it as well ;w; ! and don't worry haha -- the only people I'm obnoxious towards are those who get on my bad side and it takes a lot to get there X'D. I'm pretty patient and I realize that text doesn't share the whole story -- it doesn't tell us about another person's expression or tone of voice and such so I try to avoid making assumptions unless it's painfully obvious if someone seems like a rude person ;w;

lol Sorry it took me so long to comment on this but it was a cute short story, I liked it a lot. I found it creative how you had Cupid give everyone a heart. Like you said, the writing is simple, but it works for a short story like this. Great job!
