Hi! I'm here from ProjectComment Β
This looks awesome! I love the details, especially in the hair, eyes and on his tattoo. Also, the use of the reddish light source from the right side contrasts really nicely with the bluish light source from the top - that helps to add realism. It's also pretty obvious that this character has more about him than meets the eye; there's clearly a story there, behind the tattoos. The tiny bit of criticism that I do have is that underneath his left arm, the torso seems to be a little too wide, and also, his left ear is a little flat. But those are really minor, and don't remove from the general effect of the piece, which is really well done.
Overall, great piece! Keep up the great work!

Hey there ^^
Glad you like it!
I see what you mean with the torso. Looking back on it, I think I started the serratus too high; it starts where the armpit should have been. I also agree with the ear, I have an awful tendency of kind of neglecting those.
Thanks!

Hi Inge. Yeah, Eve's right, you really know a lot of the human anatomy and seeing this piece I think anyone can tell you that you're such an amazing artist with amazing skills and yeah, with a lot of experience because doing such a piece like this, it not depends only by your drawing skills.
The way how you create his boddy looks realistic but especially his face. I like the tattoos too because is not so easy to create it on a body because if you're not careful or if you don't have anyΒ knowledge about human anatomy you can fail and make it looks flat like you copy the tattoo and paste on his body.
A thing that I would like to see is that you should work more at the fullbody because looks so smooth which the face have strong drawing and many details which make a little bit difference between body and face.
I like the hair details and how you did this, I think people pay much more attention about details and such things. Also about the light sources I think it really works, doing this you can create so many light details as you want because a light source is very important to skin. And back about the difference between body details and face, if I looks more careful I think you want to focus more at his head than all body, maybe you wanted to create a focal and main point of view. Also seeing his hair is like heΒ came in bed after shower, I tell you that because with those hard details to the hair, the hair looks kinda wet
Overall I think is a really awesome piece and quality drawing, I don't know what kind of tips/advices to give you because I'm not a artist and I can't draw. A suggestion that I can give you is to give some effects to looks much more explosive and maybe to create much more details at the body and tattoos.
I don't know... if you like to ask me something more about the piece, let me know, may I can help you

Hey! Thank you so much!Β
I agree, tattoos can easily look very flat. I am definitely going to work on drawing tattoos, but I'm quite happy with how these look.
Full body is a very good idea. I am currently working on a piece of a freerunner that jumps from one rooftop to another one, so I'll upload that one soon. I also very much agree with you that I have a tendency to put all the detail in the face and less in the body.Β
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such an elaborate comment. It really is greatly appreciated.

That is definitely true, good point. However, I do sometimes neglect the rest of the drawing a bit too much, I'm afraid :') I guess that happens when drawing faces is just too much fun.

Hi dear!Β
Once again, you deliver a great piece of art The way you did the light/shadows is really really awesome: I can tell there are two light sources, one warm and one cool. I presume the warm one is daylight coming through a window and the cool light is coming off monitor of some sort? Anyway, it is great, gives a real sense of depth.
You also have a great sense of detail, there are no hard edges to be found in the painting overall (and I know this can be a pain in the butt arrrrrrg). Which makes me wonder: do you use the Photoshop default brushes (just out of curiosity )?
Furthermore, his muscles are spot on, I can tell you have knowledge of the human anatomy. And the tattoos are hot!
I have two (really minor) points of feedback:
- The dove tattoo looks like it blends into his skin; awewsome. However, the lines on his right arm do not, which is just a teeny tiny bit distracting. I have no experience drawing tattoos myself, but I believe a multiply layer can help in these cases.
- It would have been really interesting if the young man would have gazed at the viewer rather than looking just forward.
Again, great piece.Β
Ik kan niet wachten tot je volgende tekening!

First of all; thanks so much for, again, taking the time for an elaborate comment, I really, really appreciate that.
Very glad you like the piece as well ^^Β
I have to admit I did not really have a specific type of light in mind with either one, in my head they were just 'lightsources' that came from a certain direction.Β
Taking out all the linework and, indeed, hard edges was really a pain in the ass, but I'm glad it shows : D I used all sorts of brushes. I did use the default ones as well, mostly the soft one to smooth out certain parts, but I also have a wide variety of custom brushes that each have their own use, basically.
I very much agree on the tattoos; it was quite difficult to get them to look natural. I rarely draw them, so I think doing a number of studies will be helpful in getting them to look a bit more natural. I did use a multiply layer, but I think I should've done something more with the two light sources maybe.
The other point is a good one as well, I also think by now that I could've done a bit more with his facial expression. Definitely paying more attention to that in a next piece.
Thanks! : D
Na vrijdag ben ik als het goed gaat helemaal klaar met mijn opleiding, dus dan kan ik eindelijk weer allemaal eigen projectjes uit gaan werken.

I'm digging the use of the red and light blue-ish lights in different positions.Β

Thanks! The blue was a lot stronger at first, but I didn't want the two colors to compete too much.

So glad you like it; it was quite a challenge to work with two opposing light sources.
(Don't worry, I will)
