His expression appears to be one of deep thought or perhaps maybe he’s just absent mindedly staring off into space as he hums the lullaby. Either way, he comes off as a protective figure.
And the girl looks so adorable snuggled up in his arms with her doll. Aww.
The artwork itself is fantastically gorgeous and comes off as a 19th century painting almost.
