John Mitchell (Aidan Turner) from Being Human UK.

Finished all Christmas Art Requests, which will be uploaded to dA tomorrow as I might forget about it on Christmas.

Portrait practice - long ago, someone challenged me to draw a guy with stubble . Next up - probably Idris Elba.

... I realized just now that I tend to paint more female faces in actual compositions but more male faces in practices.

Reference used, obviously.

Photoshop CS 5, Some Awesome New Brush from someone off dA; don't remember whom, unfortunately.

Time: ~3 hrs (max)

I'm in no place to give you any critique about this, because I could never draw such piece myself. I've just watched a couple of episodes of this show myself, so this piece kind of caught my eye. Mitchell is a very interesting character, I wonder to which direction his character will develop...

A lovely piece of art, indeed!! You can easily recognize the character. Beautiful job!

Hi Jemina! ^^ Personally, I think Mitchell does best in season 1, but I did end up watching all of Being Human UK.

Thank you for the lovely comment!

Wow! Um.. critique.. *mumbles* Well, the whisker shades up near the corner of his jaw, by his ear and sideburn, are rather broad and vague compared to the fine hairs of the side burn and further down the jaw.  And maybe the shadow on his neck, under his jaw could be a little softer like the shadows on his face.   But really, I think this is amazing!

Haha, you speak the truth - I really should have persisted a bit longer with the detailing. I'll take another look at the reference image re: shadow on the neck. Since I know what the original looks like, it didn't occur to me to tweak the values so that the contrast looked more appropriate for the painting. Thanks for the crit!
