Description Was it that the sun shone brighter
in those days?
was the grass a deeper green
or the sky less diluted by haze?
I recall running with you, friend
barefoot, treading heavily in the grass,
climbing trees, soaring on the swing set,
chasing the wildlife, eager to
keep it for
ourselves

But time passed, as it always does
we grew older, and our lives were
tugged
in different directions:
friends, clubs,
girls, jobs,
and before we knew it, it had been
years since last we met

Now it seems that life has even more
in store,
more to distract us from our friends
but I tell you now
that we chased more than wildlife in those days
we chased—no, we caught—memories
wonderful memories
that now shine just as a
lightning bug, trapped in a jar,
with two wide-eyed children
looking in

I love this piece so much. You said it was so like the one I wrote, and I agree. The last line, about catching lightening bugs, was something me and the boy in my poem did when we were little. Totally identify.

It's beautiful!

Sorry, that wasn't very thorough. But I have nothing else to say - it's all beautiful.

Thank you. I'm not sure if it's in the description of this piece, (probably) but it's the only poem I've had published. I'm pretty proud of the lil' fella.

Where was it published?

A small literary magazine in my hometown. They advertised some kind of poetry contest, and they published the top 25 entries or something.

I think. Anyway, they had a little reception for all of us where we read our shit and it was pretty cool, all said. Got some nice compliments when I was done reading from some others who had really great poems. Ego boosts are fun.

It's beautiful. I love the lines :

"...but I tell you now
that we chased more than wildlife in those days
we chased—no, we caught—memories..."
