Fantastic, I love it! Do you mind if I put this on my rpg wiki? The text doesn't it as much, but it's just such a great look for (hopefully) future plans for the character, I had to ask. Here's his profile, and you'll get full credit.

I will, definitely! I'm going to put you on my watch list now so that when you update, I can get that. The whole mood of the piece is just perfect.

Vizen, this is extraordinary. Powerful and intense and not stinting on Snape's implicit cruelty and cold fury. I realize you're not satisfied with it, but I am: I adore this. The only things I might suggest changing would be the less bloody side of his throat, where the brushstrokes look more like rumpled cloth than skin; and the texture on his forehead where the squares are a little too visible and therefore slightly distracting.
But the deadliness, the unflinchingness, of his glare is amazing; his eye combines the emptiness of Occlumency with a ferocity that promises horrible consequences. I love the dark circle under it, the obvious exhaustion and bitterness. And you've caught pretty much the essence of his sneer. His lips are exquisite: hard, thin, and contemptuous. He looks like he's about to speak, and when he does his voice will be low and insinuating and meant to draw blood. And his nose. God. I could rhapsodize at great length about the hard, uncompromising curve of his nose, the way the gleaming light emphasizes it like a threat. This is a Snape who is not happy to be alive. He has a bone to pick; he begrudges the world his survival and he's already lost everything, so he has nothing left to lose.
Gah. I'm just blown away by this. It's gorgeous and goosepimply, and I keep coming back to the cold promise in his burning stare. This is not the portrait of a man who's found peace. This is bastard!Snape at his finest and I would love to see what this angry, unforgiving soul will do now that he's set loose on the world, with no higher purpose to keep him in line.
I would 'favorite' this multiple times if I could. Really, I think I'm in love.

Hello You! Your comment is a delight. This is unfinished, really, I can see only what is to be done further. My fear is that very often with what I draw, I can find the expression I want to see and then lose it when I start polishing, finishing the work (and usually I don't finish). So I don't know if I can improve it, honestly. But yes, Snape is pretty much angry and not happy to be brought back and... already enjoying what harm he can do...Snape and peace, it doesn't work long for me. War and grudge to hold, that would make him feel alive. I imagine that Snape finds relief and quenching in fighting and attacking the others but that his ultimate goal is to find a more positive way to find peace and his purpose in the war, as he did it in DH; but as you say, without higher purpose...I can feel his inner dark side taking him all again.

OK Bea, I love it, still there is something about him that just makes him look older than he should... or is it me? Oh he is amazing anyways!!! Love it!!!!!!

He should be 38. I don't know, I still think it's wrong anyway - it needs more work on it, especially the hair and the neck.

You age people in the chin, mouth and eyes. His chin could be firmer. There is a hard wrinkle in the right side of this mouth, which makes him look older that he is. I love the dark around his eyes... and well, the neck also shows age... but he is thin, so he has to show tendons and things... I love Adam`s apple!
I love it Bea... he is great!

Vizen In reply to Veronika-Art [2011-10-23 07:55:31 +0000 UTC]
I have always some good difficulties with the chin. I tend to narrow the lower part of the face too much and Snape in my portraits ends with a pointed/weak chin. That's why I tried to make it larger for once but something visually doesn't work. I don't know what is wrong but I can feel that something is not in place. Maybe the eyes are again too high and/or too small. I would try to draw a different kind of forehead/nose, you know, where you could say that the forehead and nose go ahead, the forehead would be smaller then but somehow I always come back to the same kind of faces, where I can feel that the nose is making it wrong around it and where the chin is a weak point and the lips are always the most difficult to place. I looked at photos of men to see where is everything but again, you would not find the kind of faces that would be Snape's and it didn't help much : the chins are never the ones I want.
I can make the chin firmer and the neck is definitely unfinished. I'll see...Thanks for the advice!

I agree with ~perverse-idyll You caught his essence...
The proportions are perfect... I`d work on the neck a bit and maybe on the right side of his cheek...
Be happy Bea, enjoy it and just relax!!! This is amazing!

Yes, okay, I'll post it when I come back in my scraps (I'll give the link)...However, the left side is in the shadow and the portrait is unfinished. I even prefer it with the text, it looks more on focus!
But I'm glad and honoured that you like it !

I'm looking forward to the fest, a great idea!
Do you follow the Cliche Fest on LJ as well? There's a stunning new work of You-Know-Who)) with a heartwrenching Severus again: [link] (the entry is locked, open only for the members, and I don't know, if you are...). It's an illustration to a rather sad fic by anonymous Russian writer, translated by Emily Waters.

This is Snape looking at Dunderheads! You can see it in his eyes, in the way his lips curve downwards disdainfully! Wow.
Slightly different form your usual but always instantly recognisable!

Well, I think he is still too similar to my avatar one...Not that I dislike my avatar, just that I was displeased to come back to the same shape again when I wanted to create something new. I'm glad you can see his disdain in his eyes and lips.
