For Hauket 's .:StarChaser Kebanzu DTA:. 3 DAYS LEFT!!
How many miles to Babylon?
Three score and ten.
Can I get there by candle-light?
Yes, and back again.
If your heels are nimble and light,
You may get there by candle-light.
"Here I come my lady, I'm holding a candle to you...or is that carrying a torch for you? Either way, I'm on my way and I won't give up!"
Chevalier (pronounced like the French: SHEV-A-LEE-AY) is a dreamer.
Well, that's the polite way of putting it. His life was never easy, and to cope with the loss of his family and the dark memories of human injustice, he has chosen joy rather than despair.
"It's better to light a candle than curse the darkness!"
The more cynical amongst Kebanzus would call Chevalier a hopeless escapist, living in his dream rather than surrendering to reality. The world, as far as Chevalier is concerned, is dark: but there can be no stars without the dark, and stars are his abiding love. For him they represent the fact that no matter what hardships the present may bring, there is a greater eternity. Cities may burn, kehzu folk may die, horrors may come crawling - but the seasons will still turn and the stars will shine on for an eternity long beyond any mortal lifespan.
"Where there is light, there must be shadow, where there is shadow there must be light. There is no shadow without light and no light without shadow...."
Chevy's great aim in life is to finally find and meet the elusive Night Thief, and perhaps be allowed to match his wits with hers. He has never doubted her existence and would like nothing more than to be like her, both in reputation and in skill. He is a consummate wanderer, keeping on the move, travelling at night as often as he can.
His plant form is the night blooming jasmine, deliciously scented. His human shape is less than perfect: his ears remain very pointed and his claws and horns evident if his hair is pushed aside.
--------------------------------------------
hhhhhokay. I am weak for star designs, I admit this. But the whole concept for character and composition came together as soon as I hit the Babylon candle rhyme and then...Chevy came to life for me. I couldn't leave out all the little elements that make up his life, so the Night Thief is in there, his plant form, a closeup of his face, and his human shape too.
I so very nearly didn't finish this in time. Good luck to everyone, your entries are all awesome and I hope my little offering may at least hold a candle to them
