Description As the only Western power with enough strength to join the aerial arms race against Empire of Albion, the United States of Columbia designed multiple and built multiple classes of this new Juggernaut-type battleships. However, unlike their ex-bosses, Columbian engineers, shipbuilders and generals reached a general consensus that they do not really need to project their power too far, and a battleship with a max speed around 200 knots is reasonable, no reason to build them with nuclear jet thrusters that are woefully inefficient at low speed. However, the moment they knew the United Empire was mass producing "railguns" to use on airships, the Bureau of Navy Air Service, which would become the Air Force in 1914, rethought their plans immediately. At that point, 3 classes with a total of 10 battleships had been either launched or laid down with construction on the way. They halted and revised the plan before continuing with this race.

After multiple changes, the Navy Air Service finally reached a conclusion: A new battleship that can reach up to 8-9 miles above sea surface, powered by eight magic fusion reactors running its anti-gravity device and shield generators. The ship will be armed with 8 three-gun turrets, which means each gun can load, elevate and fire independently, with most of them located on the dorsal side as they expect to fight enemies from way above, considering the HMS Juggernaut itself can reach ten miles up into the sky. Columbians knew their anti-grav was more limited, as such they intended to compensate with a flying brick whose bulk of hull will be used as a physical shield to protect the much more vulnerable components, such as the bridges, CIC, reactors, engines and magazines. The ventral side, which will typically not see action, is only lightly armored with 2 main turrets. Most of its communication cables, antennas as well as radars are also hidden inside/below the hull, protecting them from shockwaves and EMP effect from shaped-charge nukes.

The USS Providence, named after the State of Providence, was laid down in 1913 and launched in 1915 as the first vessel of these Columbian "super Juggernauts". It was built with all the intended feature the Bureal of Construct and Repair had when they halted the construction of older battleships, and thanks to that has many lessons incorporated. The ship is highly automated with the combined use of golem mainboards and analog computers, radars are connected directly to computers to feed them data and most systems can be controlled remotedly thanks to a set of machines in the bridge and CIC. Thanks to that, the number of crew is dropped significantly, but those that are chosen said some parts were hard to work with. It is a vessel of new innovations, that is inevitable.

The Providence is an unorthodox and... ugly design, no matter how one tries to sugarcoat it. Unlike other Juggernaut-type battleships, its superstructure is simplified to the point of being literally metal towers with rangefinders on top, not even conning towers as those things are placed on the ventral side. Yet, as a child of their "death from above" prediction, the ship's main battery, with six out of eight turrets, are located on the dorsal side. Their top and frontal armors are very thick to withstand punishments in case shields are down, and the deck armor, as well as the ship's sheer hull, will protect important parts. it's not wrong to say the upper deck is used only for battles while actions are mainly carried out on the bottom, like how traditional zeppelin-type airships work. Columbian shipbuilders went through many gun calibers and finally settled down with 16"/50cal simply because that was the largest type of railgun they could reliably build at the moment. As such, the Providence is packed with as many dakka as possible to fire upward to enemies of higher altitude. For propulsion, it uses a "gravity drive", essentially an anti-gravity device being repurposed into generating both lift and thrust. It can go extremely silently, however gravity drives accelerate painfully slowly, that's why the ship still needs its fusion-powered contra-rotating turboprops out there for initial speed.

That was the plan, until the United Empire launched their Bình Thiên-class super Juggernauts...
