Description After a bit of time, I ended up making this map. I had a bit of a hard time trying to find examples of a reversed Cold War Map so I had to try my best and let the butterflies of chaos kick in. Inspired by the AH timeline Reds. Enjoy it!
---------------------------------------------------

In all honesty, the idea of a Cold War seemed inevitable. When the secondWorld War would end, only two superpowers would remain. And that was the case. These two powers would decide the philosophies of the future. For the capitalists, we have the Russian Federation and for the socialists we have the United Socialist States of America.

Wait, something doesn't seem right...

It all started before the war. It all started after World War I. The United States entered a bit sooner and not wholly prepared for the brutality and the bloodshed that was to be expected, leading to several weary and broken units of soldiers. Events led to the rise of socialism as a viable option and party, especially when the Great Depression hit. The potential party split was averted and instead grew more and more appealing. Restrictions were tightened and their rising popularity and appeal began making many of the government officials nervous. Fortunately, matters ettled down  quietly enough for World War II to go on. Unlike the last time, the US didn't enter immediately at first, but when Pearl Harbor was attacked it was inevitable.

Meanwhile, similar actions happened in Russia. A young Joesph Stalin ended up running into a wealthy benefactor who saw his potential and when he needed money for school, the young man was backed up. He introduced him to fellow successful individuals who shaped the ideals of the young man. However, when the Reds came, Stalin decided to go undercover. Hiding his true agenda, he posed as a sympathetic agent in the Lenin's organization. While there, he tried to sway some people away from communisim merely by playing Devil's Advocate in mock arguments, under the guise to test their conviction. However, Stalin was very intelligent and keen; this allowed him to plant the seeds of doubt into the heads of some of the mroe prevalent members. When he took charge he slowly began working in philosophies and how to manage the large Soviet state. During a visit to the States to talk to the current president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, he ended up meeting some more self-made men and furthered his ideals. When the War ended with the atom bomb, the dominos fell into play.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was discovered to have actually been poisoned rather than dying in his sleep and the new president was added in hopes of squashing the socialism movement in the States. In the end, Huey Long (having survived his 1935 assassination attempt) led some of his followers in protest and died as a matryr. The weary soldiers returning and discovering the death of Roosevelt as well as the conspiracy led the majority of the public to rise and fight back. The Year of Fire was happening also in Russia as Stalin led a coup with several of his follower to create a new Russia for the everyman to become the best he could be.

From the ashes rose the United Socialist States of America and from a similar event in the East, so did the Russian Federation.  The Cold War had begun, under circumstances no one could expect. Armed with superweapons, the superpowers forged a race for control voer the world and it has been more than 50 years.

With the new millenium approaching, the world continues on and the Cold War keeps simmering down despite the close call.

The 'Reds' are led by the United Socialist States of America. Arguably the most liberal of the countries, there is a great deal of freedom regarding people and have been the leader in pomoting civil rights for various minority groups while promoting a great understanding for various cutures. However, newcomers who make it in find very difficult to adjust because it is encouraged and recommended for citizens to take a proactive approach regarding political involvment in the community as well as social interaction. It was initially very difficult for more introverted folk to blend in well, but due to the USSA's adamant approach regarding to the study of sciences, the field of psychology has advanced well enough to further help these individuals. They are a surprisngly stable economy, relying on careful taxation and spending. They also reinstated apparenticeships in more hand-on fields as alternates for those who may find university is not right for them. However, they still retain a secret police, albeit serving more as an auxillary unit for internal affairs and have been trying to deal with some of the more restless youth looking to seek fortune, showing off the generation divide. They still maintain a healthy amount of money in the budget of military issues, but talks with Russia has seen this budget been shrinking. Regarding the polticial landscape, there are some parties, but the three largestA very nice place to live in where you are not discriminated against and there are no classes, but you are expected to take an active role in the community. It's very alien and sometimes more than a little uncomfortable to those from more individualist states.

The USSA's close allies include the Moosonee Pact, the United Socialist Mexico Federation and the Socialist Republic of Japan The Monsonee Pact was the result of the Canadian dominion being divided up after the Canadian Revolution occurred. They are named after the capital of New Canada, Monsonee, the result came in the provinces becoming its own countries, especially since native groups like the First Nations, the Metis and the Inuit getting their own countries. They're proud of that, but they aren't excluding foreigners or immigrants of different races, especially since they are still growing economically and having new young people with ideas coming over to help them out would be something nice. They also serve to keep tabs on the Russians for the USSA. Mexico has been doing all right as they serve as a wonderful tourist site. They also serve in running the Panana or rather the Atlantic Canal. They have been making some good money off of that and improving the quality of life in the annexed countries. Much like in OTL, Japan has also become close friends with the United States. They were not initially socialist at first, but the ended becoming it over time, having only become it in the last decade or so. They have rebuilt their economy quickly, but ended up going through a subdued cutural revolution due to the pressures that the elders were placing on the children. While much of the Japanese values are in placed, they are more relaxed and there is also a boom in the Japanese entertainment industry, with the US catching anime and manga fever.

However, the largest and closest ally the USSA has is China. After the discussions fell with Russia, Mao was assisted by the Americans. Unfortunately, the extended battles met that Mao was wounded and he ended up dying despite the assistance of the USSA. However, the reds won over China. Due to the untimely death of Mao, there was a power vacumn at first. Liu Shaoqi was chosen as he was the closest Mao had to a successor and there were even documents that proved Liu being the second-in-command. He agreed to work with the US to help make China a socialist state. After a few decades, the effort has paid off as China has become nearly a superpower. Due to careful management and steady work, there was ltitle damage from industrialization and modernization slowly but surely occurred. While the USSA manages its control over the Americas, China attempts to manage what it controls in Asia. Much like its Western counterpart, the Chinese enjoy a great of personal freedoms, but tradition is a tad stricter here. The emphasis on tradition and culture is what drives the population to maintain involvement in the community and in politics. However, they have been getting a bit more relaxed. ChinBased on the success of the USSA and China, more people yearned for the type of freedom and equality that were shown in those areas. Most of Indo-China has now become nder the sway of the Chinese. Burma, now having called itself Myanmar, is doing particularly well due to the vast resources it has, which it's selling to the Chinese while also getting some good education while its fellow countries are also industrailzing and modernizing. They also serve as becoming popular tourist spots for Americans and some have even moved there.

The capitalists (jokingly called the 'Blues') are led by the European Union. The most central of all of the major players, they were very surprised by the sudden reversal fo the situations. However, they ended up siding with Russia due to the Years of Fire in the States. Surprised by the efficiency of the States and later China, they decided to help their former colonies stand up and become their own states, lest they side with the Reds. Britain leads the European Union as well as the British Commonwealth, many of old Britain's former domains have become successful nations and most have stayed loyal as a result. They are on decent if professional terms with the States and really don't communicate with China that often outside of the disputes over the Tibetian territory with India and Britain against China. They have also been working on improving the civil rights of their environment though while remaining capitalist, enjoying the connections they have with their other nations. Germany is up and running very nicely, becoming a mechinccal hub while France has been furthering its attempts at helping its African dominions stabilize. Continual control of the Suez Canal has helped the British regained lost funds, though the economy has slowed since the Nigerian Federation has become more neutral and less associated with them. Nonetheless, they continue to serve as the central balancekeeper in a precarious world. While they were more conservative to balanace against the states, liberal movements led them to being more centered.

Due to the differing events, Britain had to change their approach on dealing with their Commonwealth. They were stricter in terms of dividing the land up and were alot more careful and diplomatic in the development of the countries. This meticulous approach paid off as many of them have ended up as strong countries. Many war-weary soldiers settled here in fact and it certainly helped. India is doing well as well as the former colonial areas in Africa. The Middle East is somewhat tense as there was a lot of conflict regarding Jordan, Palestine and Israel. Britain decided to divide the land in hald and give the top to Israel and the bottom to Palestine. The conflict was settled when the People's Caliphate of New Mesopotamia got involved. While the forces did bolster them, they also ended up taking a great deal of land and they weren't pleasant to the people in the territory. Before Jordan and Palestine were gobbled up, Israel had gotten them to back off with the Israeli Nuclear Program having been set up.  They have all been getting along very nicely since then, mainly working on getting the folks in the Sinai their own territory.

Their strongest ally however are the Russians. Thanks to Stalin's mechinations, he was able to turn the tables on his former party and organize his own. The early years of Russia's rebuilding was difficult due to the sheer size and scope of the nation. However, with the absence of the Americans and quick industrailization by many upcoming minds, it was doing quite well. Things became interesting when Stalin introduced his new wife to everyone, Ayn Rand. Rand, having been disillusioned by what happened in America, fled back to Russia and she ended up with Stalin. Her books became exemplaries for how to succees in the modern world. Russia spun off most  of the former Soviet Union and helped them rebuild, using it as a long-term investment while remaining with the rest of Europe. The emphasis and rewards on educating one's self helped establish many strong invdividuals. It led to the formation of CETO, the Central European Trade Organization. The Russians are in line to what present-day libretarianisim. While objectivism was the foundation, it had to be tempered with some form of incentive for being involved with the nation, due to the massive size of Russia. The Russian Federation is the dominant sector of the free market and is one of the wealthiest nations in the world. This along with the educational incentive, has led to it also being neck in neck with competition with the United States for technological advancements. A large and progressive nation, it has accomplished similair social reforms like the Socialists, but relied on the free market rather than government interference. However, not all is well in the Russian Federation; there is an admittingly large section of people still poor due to the difficulty of access of basic neccesities. In addition, the idea of long-term investments has been gradually phased out as the rich men and women of Russia strive to remain in a position to keep earning more. Corporations are becoming more powerful and influential; the main problem is that personal bias is still a large influence in the workplace and that monetary incentive is a much better way to influence politics and agendas than being in the governent. Despite many of these problems, the Russian Federation still stands strong and proud. They have been working to protect individual rights, but it's become a bit hard deciding that. The rest of Europe's allies include France's former African colonies, now some becoming strong states in their own right.

In the middle of it all would be a collection of neutral states who stand out because of their important. First and foremost is Switzerland. Still neutral, still armed and still loving it. Though even they were surprised by the switcheroo and have been a bit more on-guard to keep an eye for any unexpected surprises. The Kingdom of Arabia enjoys its neutrality as well; they sell oil for both sides while remaining an Islamic state. However, there has been concerns over both sides no longer depending on oil so they have also been promoting tourism to bolster the economy. They have been investing in the prototype solar cell technology. Brazil also has become a rising star and as a potential third party as it interacts with its southern neighbors while also ensuring the USSA does not simple take over the Americas. Besides developing their own space program, they have also been the force keeping Argentina in check. They have been also expanding into the Amazon Rainforest, much to the chagrin of both sides. However, it's Brazil's main trading partner that has gotten the interest. The Nigerian Federation was once part of the British Commonwealth. Several of the small colonies were joined together as a way of unity. It worked well as the people grew together and overcame their shrotcomings. They also began using their environment and examples from both mdoels to become pwoerful and successful, eventually breaking from the Commonwealth. Serving a provider of many products, especially being the leading nation of chocolate, they serve as the primary power in Africa and as a role model to other nations.

Technology is slightly more ahead than in OTL. Due to the space race not ending, more research has gone not just into space exploration, but alsp in new technolgoies in general. The International Space Station will be celeberating its fifth year of success, DVDs have become commonplace and very popular compared to VHS. The internet is growing rapidly and it's one of the few places where people all around the world can communicate, despite the differences across the board. Furthermore, video games have become more commonplace at home while alternate fuel sources have become the latest competition, trying to find the most efficiwent and environmentally friendly. The Cold War has not been near hot for a while. Due to the foundation on the travesty of war, the USSA does not wish this onto the masses while the Russian Federation viewed it as an impractical strategy for money. Instead, they have been using proxies in terms of helping smaller nations develop themselves. There have been talks to revive the United Nations concept as well as mining operations on the moon.

This version of communist USA is arguably the most pleasant one I have ever discovered.

It's not communist; it's socialist. It's based on an interesting alt-history scneario, The Reds.

Well, It seems to be a pleasant place to live in, still. Better than the socialist/communist versions of the USA I've seen.

Interesting, normally Stalin gets shot in non-Soviet Russia timelines.

Despite his short-comings, he is a very intelligent and powerful man. I figured if anyone could help rebuild Russia without communisim, it'd be a capitalist Stalin.

Although the getting shot thing does bring to mind something else for later...

Oh wow, this is nice… I read that timeline Reds over on AH.com and I liked it a lot! Great job!

One small note… just what are the three political parties in the USSA?  The sentence is cut off midway through.

The first one is the Libretarian Socialist Party. They're more for smaller government, in the sense that decisions should be headed by citizens' assemblies, trade unions, and workers' councils. They're also more into isolationism. They appeal to the ideal of small towns and patriotism. They're occasionally accused of being closed-minded or naive due to their mindset being against the growing interconnectivity of the world.

The second party is the Social Democratic Party. Formally the Democratic Sociaists, they changed over the years and mellowed considerably, but some of the older members and policies on the idea of revolution still linger. Arguably the dominant party at the point, they have also been trying to ensure that everything has been working whill taking any potential positive ideas from other capitalist nations and seeing if it can be applied to the nation.

The last main party are the Union of Technocrats. Formed during a educational reformation sweep across the nation, they believe in efficient and a smooth-running governent run by experts. They are somewhat controversial; while they are very appealing to educated folk, the younger generation and science-minded individuals, they have run into problems on who desginates the experts as experts as well the potential for power exploitation or bias.
