They're putting him back in. He's going to be immediately installed after the convention.Β

The Imagineers who accompanied the animatronic at D23 said it was for demonstration only and that they dressed it up as the Hatbox Ghost for pure amusement. However, a source from the "inside" claims that they do intend to introduce the animatronic to the Mansion eventually and that they even had it testing in the actual attic a short while back.Β 


So, it's a solid possibility that he may return as the incarnation we saw at D23. It's also possible that this is another floating rumor and that there is no objective to use animatronic; there have been several occasions in the past few years where Imagineering and marketing antics led the fandom to believe Ol' Hattie would be making his big comeback, only to disappoint when nothing would happen. Forgive the intrusion, but I hope this answers your question.
