Description Kou Toa or Deep One

From the Wikipedia
"The name "kuo-toa" was created by Gary Gygax, co-creator of the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. However, the concept has overt similarities to the Deep Ones, creatures that appear in H. P. Lovecraft's novella "The Shadow Over Innsmouth"; for example, like the kuo-toa, the Deep Ones are a monstrous marine-dwelling race of fish-headed humanoids, who worship a being called Dagon.

The kuo-toa are considered "Product Identity" by Wizards of the Coast and as such are not released under its Open Gaming License"

"The kuo-toa first appeared in dungeon modules D2 Shrine of the Kuo-Toa, and D3 Vault of the Drow The first D&D manual that the kuo-toa appeared in was the original Fiend Folio."
_________________________________________

This is about as close to canon of a illustration of a Kou Toa as I can do and is more accurate than later illustrations by WOTC to the original created by Gary Gygax.

Some worship Dagon, but most follow Blibdoolpoolp... and yes they are Deep Ones from H.P. Lovecrafts mythos.

Gygax took creatures from many writers, Tolkien, Lovecraft, and numerous others. I always loved the Kou Toa as I'm such a fan of Lovecraft and they work so well in fantasy as well.

The Kou Toa are a copyright to TSR hobbies and Gary Gygax . RIP Gary, we still miss you...

Very nicely done, almost looks like something I'd see in a 1st edition book!

I never liked the Fiend Folo version, I liked the Jeff Dee version in the D1-2 module. They looked cool.

the Jeff Dee drawing is the best!
That's the standard they should be going for, not the lizardy-dude thing of 4th edition.
How can you not go wrong with a piranha head?

I've always liked describing Deep Ones as looking slightly different depending upon where they are based. Norther vs Southern hemisphere, Atlantic vs Pacific just as humans have ethnicities.
