The Fountain of The Expanse is the name given to a large pulsar, formerly in a binary pair located in the Golden Expanse. The pulsar was flung out of its binary system by the massive gravitational anomalies of the Golden Expanse and its strong magnetic/gravitational fields dragged out a huge cloud of ancerium with it.

The detection of such a significant ammount of hyperfuel outside of the extremely dangerous Golden Expanse caused somewhat of a gold rush. Thousands upon thousands of harvesters from the Unaligned travel to the Fountain daily to charge their arrays with the precious form of exotic matter. Ancerium density in the Fountain is orders of magnitude lower than in the Golden Expanse, meaning ships have to cover a far larger area in order to harvest the same ammount of hyperfuel. This has resulted in the creation of a specialized form of harvester ships, nicknamed "Fountainheads", with large engines and enormous radiators allow them to continuously carve out huge swathes in the ancerium cloud with their arrays. Like the harvesters of the Golden Expanse, Fountainheads dwarf all types of military vessels and their arrays are hundreds of miles long.

The presence of so many fast yet unmaneuvrable spacecraft and the sensor-jamming nature of the ancerium cloud makes the Fountain an extremely chaotic place. Whereas the harvesters of the Golden Expanse often collaborate out of survivalism in the face of extreme danger; the stabler nature of the Fountain means harvester crews are far more ruthless with one another and pirates are never too far away.
