An unorthodox story for the orthodox Cristmas (which is today) It's actually a modification of Russian folktale about Snegurka, also known as Snow Maiden.
To illustrate my version of it i used EQG character with primarely cold palettes. Hope you like it, and merry Christmas again! ^^

It the land of Eternal Winter there is fairy-tale about Snegurka. A snow golem in a shape of a young girl created by Ded and Baba (probably rogue wizards specializing in frost magic, hiding from inquisition or something in a godforsaken village). Their creation was cute and powerful, but, like any artificial being with human-like intellegence, also vulnerable before existential questions regarding herself. All her life, she dreamed of getting close with other villagers, girls in particular, all in vain, for they were scared by her aura of bone-chilling frost. Yet everyone around was entrapped be her transcendent beauty, bewitched by the arctic radiance of her eyes... Torn between fear and enchantment, they never took the last step to becoming true friends. One hot summer day (so hot, snow started melting under the burning sun!), when Snegurka's power was in decline, she went with other folks of the village to the Frozen Forest where they jumped over fire in an ancient pagan ritual.

To show everyone that she is the same as them, and not some kind of monster, the snow girl bravely weakened her aura, to the very edge, beyond which she simply begins to melt in the hostile light of the hot summer sun.
And then, when her turn came, she jumped without a second thought. With awe and terror, the villages watched as a sudden burst of flame dissolved the silhouette of the mysterious girl into thin air, and no one has seen her ever since.

Or so the story told. But the truth is that Snegurka was saved at the last moment by the famous bandit girl Rainbow Wolf. Rainbow lived in the Frozen Forest, alone for the most of her life. Once, she had seen Snegurka among the other villagers and was so mesmerized by her cold beauty that she had been stalking her ever since, but fearing rejection, Rainbow always hid in the shadows and frozen mists, never revealing herself.
Yet, when she saw Snegurka in danger, she rushed in to save her, not hesitating for a second. She was so fast that no one had time to understand what was happening, before Rainbow Wolf disappeared into the chaotic shadows casted by the greedy fire, ripping his prey away with her bare hands. They were frozen, covered in ice after touching the magical girl, but she didn't care. She had saved Snegurka, and that was all that mattered.
Later, Snegurka helped Rainbow with her wounded hands, said farewell to her parents, and left home to see the world. With her new friend, of course. Travelling the land of Eternal Winter together, neither of them felt alone again.
