Despite all her restraint, a laugh escaped Yuna's tightly pursed lips. It bounced and scattered off the stone walls of the underground chamber like a crazed bat. Yuna froze, toes curled, certain that such an outburst in this most sacred of locations would be her doom. But the waters of the circular pool in the middle of the room remained undisturbed. She allowed herself to relax, perhaps too much, because perversely, her relief prompted more laughter; louder, full-throated laughter edging dangerously towards mania.

The military would lead peasant farmers through the streets of the capital to slaughter nobles and loot temples.

She shuddered to think of what the starved masses would do to her: a prime example of what they would consider courtly excess. In a lean time, Yuna was kept well fed. She ate during each hour she was awake, even as she saw rations to her fellow priestesses decrease. Her body became swollen, her hips curving out far enough to brush door frames, her stomach bulged provocatively but was hidden by two of the largest breasts in Mictlan's recorded history.

These massive glands were what the priesthood, the dynasty, and thus the entire civilization were pinning their hopes on. Yuna had stopped laughing. Yuna padded close to the edge of the pool and lowered herself to her knees, weighty chest overhanging the mirrored waters.
