Description
If nothing else, I want my Asian comic to contain bearded vultures. These are huge, utterly fascinating birds! Some of the unique behaviors and traits of these magnificent creatures will be partially covered in the comic, but mainly they will be talked about in the conservation-geared website that will be tied to the comic project (conservation isn't really talked about specifically within the comic to keep it from being preachy). One interesting fact about this species, is that they fill a very specialized and helpful niche in serveral ecosystems. Approximately 90% of this bird's diet consists of bones and bone marrow, making it perhaps the only osteophage around.There is a random red panda in the top left corner, a "bearded lady" in the top right corner, and a bearded fellow shaving with a straight razor (which is actually what my boyfriend uses to shave with because he's damn sexy like that). might appreciate the straight razor.
Photo refs were used for the red panda, the flying vulture, and the vulture heads in the lower right corner and the middle of the page top.As I mentioned before, I sadly have to set the Asian comic a few decades back simply to fit in a wider range of biodiversity. Many organisms have either gone extinct, disappeared from native ranges, or simply decreased drastically in number in recent years. You can read about the very sharp decline (90% decline according to one survey) of Asia's vultures, and what people are doing to help, in the following three articles (which span over eight years, and start with scientists being unable to account for the thousands of mysterious vultures deaths, and end with the problem being identified, though not controlled).

If any of the information I provide on either conservation or species information is incorrect, please correct me. I do not wish to help the rampant spread of misinformation. If you simply have a problem with biodiversity however, I'm not the person to rant to.

Just found this. Lammergeier's may be one of my favorite birds ever (besides toucans) and I've recently made myself a character of one. I didn't expect to ever see any art of a Bearded Vulture though, at least not good art. AND THIS, my friend, IS GOOD ART.

The red panda is so nicely drawn but so are the vultures! They rock hardcore especially the colored one.
As for conservation groups to trust I would say WWF? Not sure how they feel about supporting comics though, but worth a try ;D

Oh, I can't imagine they would be supporting comics. XD By a conservation-geared website, I just mean a private site run by me and possibly others to help educate people about the species found in Asia, and the heavy perils some of them face (and how that in turn negatively impacts human living). I haven't heard too many criticisms of the WWF (though I'm not sure how I feel on them yet). Another group, The Nature Conservancy, has come under heavy fire, but they actually seem to genuinely work hard to fix the parts of their system that are open to corruption. Course, for those who don't trust TNC, there is always personal conservation easements.

I'm constantly sick, in pain, and on so many meds I can't focus properly, so I'm not even sure what all I have and need atm. I keep meaning to go through it all but get too sick before I can even bother. I still have hospital forms to fill out, etc. :\

I really like the variety you have on this project.
I've not heard of that species of vulture, but obviously, there's a plain reason to that. It's great that you've both added the species and that you've given such life to the characters. I really like the realistic yet still stylized quality you have added to these sketches, and your art in general.
I can really tell this comic is going to be an exiting and educational experience. ^^

Ah man, I think my wires are switched because I tend to find animals that are commonly described as ugly to be gorgeous. And things like golden retriever puppies make me yawn. I ponder daily if I was perhaps dropped on my head as a child. Or if a gerbil climbed up my nose and chewed through some seriously important neurons.
So glad you find this guy to have a cool factor though!

I love how your comic is including so many different types of animals you don't hear about everyday. I've spent more hours watching nature shows than most and this species is new to me...and can you ever draw birds!

Aren't they great birds? Haha, can red pandas do anything but steal hearts? They are just naturally sickeningly adorable. Oh! The panda at Hogle was actually moving around last time I went. All the animals were really active, and Kil and I saw the peccaries fighting and brandishing their tusks, and the lynx out playing with their ball. Seems like the cooler weather is making a lot of the animals more active and photogenic.
I have such a tough time finding conservation groups that I trust. I'd love to hear any suggestions!

Well, the beginning and very end are set in stone, with some random bits in the middle being fairly fleshed out, along with some ongoing themes and snippets, but the whole thing won't be completed until after I give people a chance to insert their characters into the comic.
