I debated awhile where exactly to put this image and what category fits it best... its not photo manipulation unless you count using alien skin film effect actions in CS4 to be manipulation. I mean it is basically a simple edit of the model as she stood in my garage in front of particle boards i mounted on the wall and floor. Does adding the magazine type on top make it that? Anyway I debated it and decided in the end... it's straight old school pin up and i'll leave it here. If it bothers anyone, please tell me why, not just that it does.

Other than that sometimes a shoot inspires really complicated edits and actual graphic design... this would be one of those shoots.

This shoot wasn't even intended to be this particular style and look... it just morphed... she had the hair style with the suit... then you add the ears... then i happened to have my great grandfathers old robe and pipe... and it just went from there... I love this shot and having it blown up and framed.

Nice shot and embellishment. Just wondering if you experienced any pushback from PB from using their trademark? Great idea, great vintage bathing suit and shoes, pretty lady.

I actually shoot for Playboy Special Editions, haven't had any comments from them, but also don't think that they know of the photo lol I think they are more zealous of the use of the bunny logo in commercial enterprises than a fake mockup of a cover for the magazine in a year it didn't even exist

great shot, and here's a minor critique. i do a lot of graphic arts stuff, so the first thing i noticed was that the color of white in the word PLAYBOY should be toned a few shades down and the sharp images make it look too computerized - but the model and shot is right on the mark.

lol, thanks, I can explain that all away by saying I am a photographer and not a graphic artist and know that there is a difference They don't use my photoshop and I won't use their illustrator lol

I'm thrilled to see that this worked and has drawn a good response as I have been planning on doing something similar although from different era, (hours of research so far!).

I'm of the opinion that, if you don't know what pigeon-hole the photo belongs in, then you must be doing something right. Although I'm glad you put it somewhere where I could find it.

DannyBillArgent In reply to walker1812 [2010-08-16 22:58:40 +0000 UTC]

About 1967-1972.

...but not Playboy. I have been looking at staging and faking a number of different styles from holiday snaps to magazine advertising.

We have been looking at retro wallpaper on ebay and going around the charity shops looking at hideous junk! Even if it never happens, it's been a lot of laughs so far!

walker1812 In reply to DannyBillArgent [2010-08-16 23:06:06 +0000 UTC]

That's an interesting time period. The popular culture depicted in ads didn't really reflect the pop culture we remember as being iconic for that time. Should be some interesting stuff

Love the classic vintage look.

Vintage playboy is so much more appealing than modern playboy that is so airbrushed the models look like PVC dolls.

walker1812 In reply to Taraakian [2010-08-16 20:50:25 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, i really enjoyed looking at the classic images from the '50s to research the magazine cover... i just missed it by about 15 years, lol

nitro1967 [2010-08-16 18:48:01 +0000 UTC]

love this! very 50s retro...great shot

just fyi though - Playboy was first published in 1953, the same era as that swimsuit

novel idea though..Hef would have been 12

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

walker1812 In reply to nitro1967 [2010-08-16 20:07:36 +0000 UTC]

Oh I know the first issue was in 1953 and there was only one issue for that year. I went and studied the magazine headers from that era and font to copy.

The bathing suit is actually something that is '30s... it was a daring swimsuit in the '30s and by the '50s was becoming sort of matronly. There is only 12 years between them, it's like a girl wearing a swimsuit from 1998 today.

In the '30s it would have been sexy as hell and a tad risquΓ© to wear this suit. In the '50s that honor would have moved on to the bikini and other suits. Playboy would have a girl in something cutting edge sexy for the cover. At least that was my rational.

As for Hef being 12? he developed early, lol

nitro1967 In reply to walker1812 [2010-08-16 20:56:37 +0000 UTC]

wow...didn't know they were wearing that style in the 30s

yeah, hef was born in 26..

either way...innovative...great shot, pose, props, and beautiful model.

any more of her? great work

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

walker1812 In reply to nitro1967 [2010-08-16 21:12:29 +0000 UTC]

lol, I only had those facts at hand because the model argued with me about it,

If you ever want to study a true revolution in bathing suits, there was like a 5 year window between 1919 and 1924 where we went from women swimming in neck to ankle cotton dresses to swimsuits similar to what you see here. That had to have been a crazy time. Forget about the shocking look of bikinis.

Lost more of her, check out the model link, and there will be more from this shoot. I shouldn't have edited this one as soon as I did. I have to go back and catch up on real work before i get back to her shoot

lol, well i didn't want an actual production year, as i made up the date though i started thinking about Playboy August 1776... having an implied shot of Betsy Ross sewing the American Flag with the finished part draped over her hiding the important bits.
