oooh this looks so cool! God, I love the tone and colors that makes up this piece! The character's expression! The composition! The details!
I'm going to take that statement about "you make up the story" as a challenge because I genuinely want to try to come up with something for this (I'm sorry if this might come off as spam, but I will shorten it as much as I can along the way)
I have no idea what the lower part of the more humanoid character but I'm going to assume you kept it as legs since in the speedpaint, you sketched out her legs. For sake of simplicity, I'm going to name the girl Ria and the familiar name'sΒ Zhurli.
Uhh slight trigger warning though? This has suicide in it.
Each human normally found or been chosen an unique animal companion to help them guide through their life and support them in times of need. In this world, its crucial to their survival. It's common knowledge that there is a wide range of time when that person could find their familiar. Some found it quickly. Others found it later into adulthood. However, there were a few rare cases where it seems impossible to find the right familiar for that person. And unfortunately, Ria was one of those cases. In her search for her familiar, she traveled far and wide just to find the one. Every familiar rejected her, shunned her, and couldn't stand to be even near her.
20 years of this, Ria was exhausted. Angry. And just done. Done with living with this
In these 20 years, every single bad thing had happened. Her family left her. People shun her. She was forced to leave her own home.Β
So she decided to end it all.Β
She decided to drown herself. She began to swim to the very deep end of the sea. She knew that by the time her body tries to come back for air, it would be all over. Once she got to the bottom, her lungs were burning.Β
But it suddenly stopped. She felt a nudge and found that she somehow gained the capability to breathe underwater. Soon, she found why. Her vision cleared and saw the looming, curious face of what seemed to be a white dragon with warm orange eyes. "Dear, why are you down here?" The surprised Ria replied, "I... I'm here because..." She couldn't find the words, staring into the kind eyes of this familiar. Within Ria's heart she felt a magnetic pull drawing her close to this familiar. Slowly, Ria brought her hand out to gently caress the dragon's face. The dragon leaned into her hand. "Hey, what's your name?" With what seem to be a small smile, the dragon replied, "Zhurli. And what may be yours?" A smile spread across her face. "The name's Ria."
That was the day. The day that Ria knew she had that familiar.
Together, they head back together up to the surface. Together, Ria returned back with finally one friend to guide her back on track through her life.
In the amidst of her despair, she had found the light that forever will shine in her life.

Of all the chances to stumble across this in Newest, ey? Very nicely done! Inherent story or not, just the expressive poses and composition carry over a whole lot more than you'd expect it to, without mentioning the rending and values.
