Description 11x17 PITT, Ink Wash

Gambit from X-Men and Grifter from WildCATS giving each other what for.

Always loved how these two characters looked. Always felt that Grifter was a Gambit rip. But it is Jim Lee so who cares, he made Gambit look awesome. So he should be able to take some of that juice for his own character.

I did this for PUMMEL. It is a Monthly competition at Pencil Jack dot com. It is pretty cool. I suggest you look into it if you want to push yourself and skills.

Basically every month you go head to head with another artist, draw the same subject and the rest of the site votes on their favorite. Winner moves up in ranks.

Before you start you have to weigh in. There are 4 weight divisions. light, middle, light heavy and heavy. You have to show 3 of your best pieces, the site votes you into one of the weight classes and then you get to compete next month.

You also get some feedback on why they either picked or didn't pick your piece in a lot of cases.

Great idea if you ask me.

Grifter is Gambit, Spartan is Cyclops, Maul is Beast, Warblade is Wolverine, Majestic is superman, Zealot is Wonder woman/Psylocke and Voodo...who knows. hehehe

Anyway i love this piece, great work. Gambit and Grifter meet at the begining of the wildcats/xmen modern age crossover. They were both in jail...

nice, I didn't even know there was a wildcats/xmen crossover...half tempted to check it out. I also related Maul to Colossus. There was also Cyberforce which was almost identical to Wildcat/xmen. warblade/wolverine/ripclaw. Cyclops/spartan/whatever cyberforce's guy name was

I guess team heroes usually have the same makeup though, so can't really blame them for following the working formula.

Scott Lobdell and Jim lee did the wildcats/Xmen modern age crossover it was pretty good.

Wizard magazine did and article about W/X similiarities.

Hey man this is pretty awesome. IDK about Wildcats but Gambit is my all time favorite X-Men. I love how you chose the neutral hues for this pic. The detail is pretty slick to. Overall, I give this a thumbs up. Good job dude.

Love the detail on Grifter's clothing - his guns, his pants, his boots. I love the sketchy/gritty look to this. Feel bad for their coats. : (

I'm going to have to look into that Pencil Jack thing - that sounds like a great way to improve.

yeah, it is through a forum so you can post messages. One guy gets to pick the subject of the battle. The person who picks is the higher ranked person.

Crap, man, that's awesome.

I actually never heard of the Grifter until earlier today when I finished downloading all The Mask comics, and the Grifter/Mask crossover was one of them. Looks quite badass, so I should probably look at it some time.
