wandaluvstacos — 'Nother Request. . . again

Description The madness will end when these requests are over, I promise. I usually don't update this often (people tend to stop commenting and ignore me).

This is for , who wanted Aly and Nawat from Trickster's Choice by Tamora Pierce. I've never read the book, but thanks to my roommate, who HAD read it, I was able to get the clothes right. Aly is a maid, and I was drawing her as an English maid. Michelle told me that she was indeed an Indian-like maid. Ooookay. So I changed that.

Anyone read the book other than her? I personally don't care for Tamora Pierce. But I liked drawing this because it reminds me of Kartik and Gemma (FYI, they apparently are NOT Kartik and Gemma, but you could have fooled me).

I like the crow the most. That's what happens when you use references. Which I usually don't.

Why the crow? Apparently Nawat is a crow who can turn into a man. That's why.

Eiii!! I love those two Except Aly's hair is more coppery/red and Nawat is more innocent/sweet looking. Great job on it though! especially since you haven't read it. =]]]]

Thank you. ^_^ Yeah, that's usually the problem with drawing things you haven't read. I guess I had another guy in mind when I drew Nawat *coughKartikcough* But I tried.

Kartik is from A Great and Terrible Beauty, if you've ever heard of it

Thank you. Yeah, I think I attempted to read Trickster's Choice and didn't make it past ten pages. It was all So-and-so is from Globdigook which is next to HocusPocus, which is allied with Yoohoo, whose king Coca has a wife named Bobita who used to live in Dingding, etc. etc. I was like, "What the hell is this?" and put it down.

Is the story not interesting?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wandaluvstacos In reply to Goddess-Demeter [2009-02-22 19:07:19 +0000 UTC]

I don't know. I got to page ten and got confused by all the technical terms. You know how some hard core fantasies are. I've noticed that Tamora Pierce never dives right into action. She tends to spend the first twenty pages describing every little political and geographical detail of the story, and it's too much at one time.

But that's just me. All my other watchers claimed to like it.

Goddess-Demeter In reply to wandaluvstacos [2009-02-22 20:10:31 +0000 UTC]

Ohhhh those kind of stories...
It takes a lot of my energy to pay attention to the story but once it gets to the action, I'm good. But I prefer stories that immediately start with dialogue and discrib everything at the same time. WAY for interesting

wandaluvstacos In reply to mariaell [2009-02-22 17:37:03 +0000 UTC]

I tried reading it two years ago and couldn't get past page ten. Too many technical terms. But I'm not a fantasy guru to begin with, unless it's vampires.

Nawat seems like a lot of fun anyway.

mariaell In reply to wandaluvstacos [2009-02-22 19:28:55 +0000 UTC]

nawat rocks my socks! if i remember right the first chapter in the first book is all fantasy history stuff- i just skipped it because it was so dry. but after that the story starts and that's pretty good! i too, am not a big fan of the fantasy genre in general.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wandaluvstacos In reply to mariaell [2009-02-22 20:17:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I probably should have just skipped the first chapter. Oh well.

I guess the "traditional" fantasies don't appeal to me because they usually follow the same formula. The main character must go on some sort of quest to attain/protect something and then they get into all these adventures along the way. I just can't get into something like that.

its an actual thing that some guy came up with. beowulf and most epic stories follow it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wandaluvstacos In reply to mariaell [2009-02-23 17:03:51 +0000 UTC]

Well, I like to compare it to the formula used in romances. They generally have a formula, then plug events into it until they have a story. I prefer fantasies that AREN'T about some quest. It's too overdone.

mariaell In reply to wandaluvstacos [2009-02-23 19:10:48 +0000 UTC]

hehe, my fave plot ever...NOT!!! guy meets girl- guy gets girl- guy loses girl- guy gets girl. SOOO overused

wandaluvstacos In reply to mariaell [2009-02-23 20:14:47 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I know. XP And there's always the plot in which the guy spends the whole book/movie chasing after one girl and then realizes he's in love with her best friend. *sigh*

Oh yeah! I did read that book many a year ago!
Nawat is HILARIOUS.
"Girls are like crows! Girls like shiny things!"

XD
Good times.
Anyways, great job! The crow is especially quite fabulous

wandaluvstacos In reply to imaginaryending [2009-02-22 17:38:31 +0000 UTC]

I probably would have liked Nawat if I made it past ten page of the book, which I couldn't. Too many technical terms. But that's Tamora Pierce for you.

I like crows, but not because they're shiny. It's because they freak everyone else out.

Thanks! Yes, the crow is the best part, I believe.

I have read the book, and I actually liked it. It does look right, but I think Aly's clothes are supposed to be more Carribean slave than Indian maid. I really think the crow and Nawat look great though.

Before i read the AC I was just asking myself "Why does Gemma have short hair..."
Then you explained. And all was well.

I haven't read the books but I do like the picture. And I really really like the chick's outfit. (chick? wtf?) And her hip muscle line thingie.

wandaluvstacos In reply to CaptainAct [2009-02-22 05:18:09 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I had problems disassociating Nawat with Kartik too. Hell, they could be the same guy. No one knows. All I know that dark-skinned, dark-eyed, sexy man with accent=SUCCESS.

Hip muscle line thingie. I love your specifics.
