Description Another entry into the 'Aviation Pinup Series' featuring each branch of the US Military... today's airbrushed style pinup photo features model Brittnee, the US Army Air Force, and the Boeing B-29 Superfortress! With a first flight in 1942, this iconic bomber would spell the end of World War 2. It was one of the largest, heaviest, and most expensive aircraft developed during World War 2 with each aircraft costing over $630,000 (over $9.7 million with inflation!). The B-29 was used by the US Army Air Force (and later US Air Force) along with the Royal Air Force until being finally retired in 1960. It served in World War 2 and the Korean War, being replaced by the B-52 Stratofortress. With a maximum speed of 357mpg and able to carry 5,000-20,000 pounds of bombs (based on altitude and distance travelled) this 74,500 pound aircraft could fly 3,250 miles and 31,850 feet to pound the enemy. It was outfitted with 8-10 .50 Cal remote control turrets, allowing the interior of the aircraft to be pressured and, in turn, warmed so the crew did not have to wear the heavy flight jackets/pants. The two most famous B-29s in the world, and what continues to make the B-29 famous, are the 'Enola Gay' and 'Bockscar' who dropped the two atomic bombs on Japan ending World War 2 in 1945. While nearly 4,000 B-29s were built from 1943-1946 during the main production, 22 have survived today with only two B-29s currently flying.
