Yeah. In the original book "The Green Mile," one of the prisoners catches a mouse and teaches it tricks. The mean guard kills it just out of sheer spite (not unlike Gaz you might say) but one of the other prisoners has a supernatural power and...
The book is "The Green Mile" by Stephen King. If you haven't already read it it's really really really good!!!
