Hey there, Lhune here from #SeriousArtists !

First and foremost I would like to know if you used a reference for this. Faces are very tricky, and even the best artists out there resort to references if they aren't too sure. There are a lot of mistakes in this portrait that could be fixed if you studied a real face, or if you studied it more intently if you already did. I understand that you've stylized some aspects of the face intentionally, but if your base knowledge isn't strong enough, your stylization will come off wrong and look like a simple mistake rather than an intentional design aspect.

Value wise the face is quite good, although it could do with some lighter lights and darker darks here and there to bring it more to life. If you're unsure what I'm talking about I'm willing to give you a paintover, though I've learned that some artists are quite sensitive about others painting over their works, so I figured I'd ask first.

Hi, I did not use a reference, I was just painting randomly and slowly shaped it into being. I appreciate the feedback though, I realize there's plenty of room for improvement ^^. Feel free to paint over. Thanks again!

Here, I hope this helps and that it speaks mostly for itself: [link] .

In short, her head is very tall towards the back and her neck extremely long. Her facial features were not really aligned properly and the whole structure of the face felt slightly skewed, as well as lacked volume. Don't be afraid to push those darks and lights and go a little crazy .

Remember, it can't really be called a study unless you actually study something . You can't really study or learn something new from what's already in your head, because you won't understand more from what you already understand. To do that you need to observe. Getting good at art is 50% drawing, and 50% observation and studying. It's THAT important. I'll give you a paintover later tonight.
