Description Edit 6/28/16: I'm running a poll on which of these to redraw! You can vote here: warp-y.deviantart.com/journal/…

About time that I posted all the things I drew this summer...

Of the many things I did, I built up a pretty rad marker collection! I don't have every lovely combination of hues (nor do I plan to) for drawing everything imaginable, but I work with what I have. I drew these on very blendy but bleedy cream-colored paper, which tends not to level very well, so I'm not very fluent yet at processing these to get them to look good after being scanned in. The markers themselves are extremely fun, though. It's like doing limited palette art except on paper. You have to think about lighting and stuff before you make any marks on the page. (The first row is for skin tone practice I swear). Notably, there is also no flip button to check for botched anatomy, so you physically have to pick up the page and hold it up to a light. Which I did many times with not very notable success.

Content-wise I...honestly don't have much to say at the moment. Will that bottom space get rented out? No idea.

SUPER CUTE SIBLINGS GO
seriously though warpy!! how are you so good with markers, ugh. I haven't even TRIED blending with them. I am exploring sharpies though, and those look fairly nice in flat colours (although they bleed through the page) and i'm in love with this metallic gold.

or are they siblings? the world may never knowwww~

markers are definitely cool! part of it is just trying enough times to get a feel for how the things work (I spilled ink on Sword's hair, oops), and part of it is because of the medium itself -- actually, most of it is because of the medium. they're like...capped paintbrushes that bleed on the page. take that as you will...or if it makes you appreciate red markers more xD
sometimes part of art is trying new stuff, yeah? when I do these I end up having a lot more fun than if I had simply scanned in the next sketch batch and retroactively slapped on color. there's just a certain charm to trad. media that I really enjoy as a breather between larger digital drawings.

you mentioned siblings...now I'm curious about the headcanon involved cx

THAT'S GOING TO BE MY NEW DESCRIPTION FOR MARKERS holy heck it's perfect
definitely!! i think experimenting and pushing boundaries is a vital part of being an artist. i'm trying out some new stuff with gouache (i got it from china and thought it was watercolour at first HAAA and then got all freaked out when it was opaque. like what. I'm not even sure if it's gouache right now. but whatever)

which markers are you using? i'm thinking of getting some blendy ones but copics are so expensive urghhh. ;v;

HOHO as for siblings i just generally refer to them as that because i headcanon them as having some bromance thing going on. More specifically, they've both got these major trust issues and kind of mostly only trust each other.

I just want them to be happy and make cookies and build ships and spar all day but i also want to make them suffer ajlkfjdsfkl;djslkfdsjl conflicting emotions

i've also got these thumbnails for like half a doujinshi in my sketchbook but I DON'T KNOW IF I'M DEDICATED ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY DRAW ALL THAT

ain't it? we'll go forth and make art with our bleeding paint sticks xD
...isn't gouache basically opaque watercolor? or similar to acrylic, though you usually put water in it? I've never used it before, so I wouldn't know. hm.

these markers actually are copics, but I haven't actually spent that much on acquiring mine (at least, relative to how much other artists may spend on them). Mostly because copic makes a 7-USD-each brush-tip marker and a budget marker that's exactly the same except holds less ink...which is the kind I got, ha. I got mine in packs of six, which rounds out my color palette and helps (slightly) to lessen the cost.
but some people swear by Prismacolors or some other obscure brands, though I didn't find as much information about them as there is about copics -- and there are some artists that make even Crayola markers look amazing by blending them like watercolors. sharpies are pretty cool, too, but I can't stand the fumes Dx

my sword and blade will swing anywhere between bromance and friends with benefits but I like the psychological aspect of their friendship the most. kinda shows in the stuff I draw about them, I guess?
ahh doujins are amazing...now I'm curious
