Thanks for the info, how do you get over the problem of that when you go over the colour "streaks" appear? Is there something I can adjust to stop this?

How do you get the eyes on your drawings to be so soft and realistic? Mine always come out to be blocky and ugly.

strange. if it weren't for the digital piece i finally did I don't think i would've regarded much from this tutorial. I suppose it's true what that Alchemist book says, when you want something, the whole universe conspires for you to succeed.

that aside very helpful tut. short sweet and delivers points that helps in PS and in belief to succeed. nice

WarrenLouw In reply to DeniseMayfair [2010-08-17 16:21:21 +0000 UTC]

Its simple. Just select the area, pull down the "edit" menu and select "define brush preset". Takes a couple seconds.

Hey I was wondering how you blend?
As of now I just use the default brush set to a 0% hardness for a soft blend, but I see most artists using a custom brush like yours.
I know some artists use blur or smudge tool, but I just never practiced it because I was used to using a soft brush.

WarrenLouw In reply to Leviathan-Ryder [2010-05-31 17:08:44 +0000 UTC]

I never use a soft brush, even for areas that need to be smooth. I use the eyedropper tool a lot when I colour, always picking the lighter or darker shade I need off of my artwork and using that. Stay away from the blur or smudge tools. They can very easily make painting look very cheap and too digitally synthetic. If you have a tablet, use my paintbrush settings and play around using it, and include the use of the eyedropper for the shade you need.

Thank you very much for replying. I have painted the way you mentioned before, I just never got to flesh it out. I'm definitely going to paint this way now and practice it as much as possible.

Here's an example of what I've been working on with my previous methods which I think came out pretty good, but I don't like the way the old brush I used worked so I can't wait to try out yours
I really appreciate the reply, Thank you!

Hi Warren, I have problems with my lines.. I cant get a clean line using brushes, especially for sketch or outlines. Or are there no clean lines in digital art?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WarrenLouw In reply to kaesegan [2010-02-28 13:08:44 +0000 UTC]

Its just a matter of becoming very comfy with your drawing hand, on paper and on a tablet. My lines are all done digitally. Ive been practicing for a long time with traditional mediums, and became quickly adjusted to a tablet. Not sure what tablet your using, but A4 is better and easier for lines. Just practice though it can be done!

kaesegan In reply to WarrenLouw [2010-02-28 16:38:07 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the reply, I think I didnt explain myself clearly. I mean the lines have jagged edges, even when I draw decently straight lines... I'm using an intuos3, A4. Could it be me zooming in too much? I see it in 100% actual size.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WarrenLouw In reply to kaesegan [2010-02-28 20:31:21 +0000 UTC]

Upload an example and send me the link and ill see what you mean. Generally its about technique and getting comfortable with your tablet. Some have it much easier on paper, but arent able to get the same results on a tablet. I draw my lines at 100% when its clean, but when i sketch its at about 50%.
