Description

Lava peered in the window uncertainly. Darkness. He hated it. Shivering, the young tom leaped through, front paws grazing the broken glass. He landed on the same table, leaving dusty prints that matched the young she-cat’s. He stood atop his perch, enjoying the height as he watched the other Student drag a red cloth to the center of the room. While she was busy, Lava focused his attention on the shadows surrounding them, ears pricked for any noise. His amber eyes glowed with discomfort and he shuffled his paws silently on the table. A sweep of his fluffy tail created an arc of brown through the dust. He returned his gaze once more to the mottled gray she-cat in the center of the room, glancing skeptically at the cloth. How could the whole world be a piece of red fabric?

Giggling in excitement as she dragged the cloth off the object she was moving, she then pounced back on to an old couch, tearing away the curtains. She did this for all of the room until everything was visible. When all the curtains where down it could be seen that the walls where covered in large pictures (maps) and that in the center of the room was an orb shaped thing on a pivot. Leaping down from where the last curtain she tore was, she walked over to the orb thing and sat down next to it.

Blinking his red eyes against the sudden light, Lava gazed around the room in silent wonder. Tons of large pictures adorned the walls, with strange markings from the Humans. They were odd and interesting at the same time, and the yellow hide they were scratched on looked so ancient that the young tom felt like he was looking back into time. Shaking his head to clear the odd sensation, Lava dragged his gaze from the walls to the young she-cat on the floor. Next to her was some sort of orb, balanced somehow on a thin golden rod. Leaping down from the table, the chocolate tabby padded closer to inspect the globe with the she-cat. The markings on it looked like the ancient pictures around them, curved into a circular shape. Unable to hide his wonder, Lava shot the other Student a wide-eyed look, a secret question dancing in his eyes.

Dei grinned back at the little tom in the gold light, pricking her ears up she pointed at the disk like gold wire that rounded the orb also; it had an even smaller orb on it. Then she spun it around slowly with her paw.
The young tom gave her an interested look so she explained, "My father said this was an 'astrolabe', it shows us where we live, this big round thing, and the light that lights our night this little round thing." she squeaked, spinning the orb again.
"Can you read?" she murmured quietly, tail twitching, waiting for a response.

Lava looked on quietly as the she-cat spun the globe. It squeaked on its' hinges, and the view of the patterns changed. He peered at the smaller orb above the "astrolabe". The sun. The life giving brightness that kept the Infected at bay. So is this where it was, hovering above everywhere? Lava always wondered where it disappeared to when night fell, as it slipped below the horizon. The she-cat's voice jerked him out of his thoughts as she asked him if he could read. Blinking, the young Student tightened his lips around his sharp teeth.
He coughed lightly before replying with a small "No." His ears burned a bit with the embarrassment of being illiterate. The truth was, no one taught him. His parents certainly couldn't have.

"That's okay." she murmured, "My father taught me, so I can teach you." She grinned her flashing teeth again. Giggling at the little tom's look, she turned on her feet and walked across the creaking floorboards towards the wall pictures. The yellowing paper glowing with dirt and dust.
She climbed up on the couch towards the pictures and pointed at one of them. "That's the Dead City," she squeaked, putting her paw on the building that was the Cahaya camp.

".. Really?" Lava murmured. She would teach him? Following the she-cat, he felt stunned. This was the first act of kindness shown towards him since he was accepted into the Cahaya Gang. Numbly, he peered over her shoulder, tracing down her slender leg with his eyes, following her paw until he saw the picture scrawled on the parchment. Examining the picture, Lava's eyes lit up with what could almost be called cautious delight. There they were, drawn by the Humans. It made him feel almost important, knowing the Humans had marked down in history his birthplace. An idea sprang to his mind and batted at his thoughts like a playful kitten until he couldn't resist it. Leaping down from the couch, he paused and sneezed from the dust stirred up, then continued on towards the globe.
Sitting by it, he turned and looked back at the she-cat and spoke in a soft, uncertain voice. "So, where are we on here?" he murmured, placing a paw on the globe for emphasis.

Leaping down from her spot on the couch, she quickly scampered over to the globe in the gold light, sitting down next to the little tom, she spun the globe.
And then placed her paw on a spot, "My father said we live here on this thing, it's called a continent, it is surrounded by water."
Moving around the drawn on shape she stopped near the center of the continent, "My dad reckoned we live here because we are in a desert or wasteland." She grinned at the little tom. Flashing her teeth.

Looking down at the globe in fascination, the young tom tilted his head. What an idea, being able to look at the exact spot where you live on something else. Wasteland. Most certainly. This was a damned city. Why else would every cat call it "dead"? But despite how he loathed being stuck here, it was all that Lava knew. The old cracked buildings were familiar and in a sense comforting, at least in the daylight. The place where his Gang slept was safe. The cats around him were not bad, and he had to admit that living alone would be unreasonable. This is home, he supposed. Slowly, he reached up with his paw to touch "home" on the globe, bumping the she-cat's paw without realizing it. He instantly jerked back, licking his paw a few times before setting it down and averting his gaze uncomfortably.

Dei giggled at the little tom's strange habits and antics.
Suddenly her face changed, the light outside the windows was growing dimmer, "We have to get back to Cahaya before the sun goes down." she murmured, "Help me." she squeaked, grabbing the astrolabe by one of its golden pivot stands.
"If you grab on to the other end we can take it with us, so the Infected don't wreck it!" she squeaked as she began carry/dragging it onto the table that led out to the fire escape.

Lava quickly glanced outside the window. The she-cat was right, the light was dimming and the sun was going down. His heart began to beat rapidly as he thought about the Infected - the one thing that scared him more than anything else. Hurriedly, he leaped over to help the young she-cat. Gripping the other end of the globe in his strong jaws, he aided her in carrying it over towards the table. Setting it down and smacking his lips at the metallic taste, he whisked over to the cloth. Plunging his snout into the folds, he tried not to sneeze as he dragged it to the globe and covered it. Blech. Now all he tasted was dust. But they had to go back to camp. His fur was fluffed up even more in agitation as he waited for the other Student.

Dei bounded up and out the window, only leaning back inside to help the young tom out so he didn't get injured. The sun was dimming as they raced down the fire escape, knocking a garbage can over in the process, she winced at the sound. She turned around seeing the small tom was having trouble keeping up with her long legs, so she whisked around picking him up by the scruff as she raced back towards the camp. The light was dimming more and you could only just see the last glimpses of gold as they hit the camp and Dei dropped the little tom on the ground, huffing.

Lava growled as the she-cat carried him to the camp, little legs waving in protest. The other Student wasn't that much older than him. Just a few months, really. He estimated his age around 11 months, but that was a vague guess. He only learned counting at an early age, so he wasn't that good. But in any case, he resented being picked up and carried. It wasn't that he was younger, he was just small. As soon as she dropped him to the ground within the camp, he shook his pelt vigorously and began to wash himself with all the dignity he had left. He stopped mid-lick as something dawned on him. He was no longer uncomfortable around the she-cat. Usually, he'd be anxious to get away, but for some reason he'd grown used to her company. In fact.. The she-cat was the only other living thing in the City that went out of their way to talk to him, and be nice to him. Not to mention the wonders she revealed in the human building. Sure, he grumped silently, she almost killed him by pushing him off a building, but.. Quite honestly, he didn't like the idea of her going away. The annoying realization wouldn't leave his mind as he looked up at her awkwardly, not knowing what to say.

An RP between and I. This is actually my first real, full RP in this group. It was really fun, and I just adore Dei.

We have yet to finish it, but for now here's this part!

I'm not exactly happy with the picture - I wanted to do the whole room with all the maps and stuff on the walls, but I'm just so darn lazy. ;w;

The quote in the picture is from the beginning of the RP that we couldn't save. ;n; Basically what happened is Dei saw Lava going up a fire escape, followed him and on the roof the tiles were loose so they almost fell off. Then she brought him down to a lower level of the building and showed him the room~
