Richard Armitage as John Porter from the Sky1 series Strike Back.So this has been lying around as finish as I want it to be for a couple of weeks. I even put it up a few weeks ago but then took it down almost right away because something was off... Tonight, I tweaked it a tiny bit and decided that it was good 'nough.
I actually really enjoyed doing it. Not only was it slightly different than my usual portraits, but I also tried to experiment with a painting technique that made my brain hurt a bit. I'm so used to blending that not blending made me go uurgghh a bunch of times. But I think it worked out pretty swell. And reproducing the dramatic light and shadow was really interesting as well.
I know there are a few things off, but my Al Gore, do I hate that head turn. I can only draw people straight on or in profile, so this is progress!
All in all, I'm quite content with it.

And yeah I really enjoyed Strike Back. It has some really exciting moments. But also some ridiculous ones. (You know that trick with water in a bucket over a door? Well, replace water with a poisonous snake. It made me laugh.)

You've created a great atmosphere thanks to the balance of shadow and light and the murky, deep colours. I like.

His nose = super fun to draw. Actually, in general his facial structure is pretty fantastic for drawing. Angles are fun.

The technique was probably the hardest part of this. And the light... getting the right colours and shade was an experiment.
I actually think I made his nose slightly longer than it should be, but when I draw him I always emphasize his nose more, just 'cause I like it.
