...A beautiful morning in February '06 and I'd hiked the frozen banks of Superior before daylight to get to one of my favorite spots. The stillness of the cold air as the sun approached the horizon was bitter cold but I pulled my hood down so I could hear the sound of cracking ice in the distance. The silence was so striking I could imagine I was the only person on earth.
I forgot about photos for a few minutes, engulfed in the cold quiet of a waking world....
