Description I know, there may be some flaws on my behalf here. I got some help from the guys on the American Ferret Association group and they submitted me a lot of pictures and everything, so I am thankful for that That helped me a lot.

I included both American and European terms for the colours. Here in the U.S silvers are called Roans and elsewhere roans are called Silvers.

If anything is amiss please tell me and I will go back and fix it I hope you all enjoy. I will be making a mink one next.

Oh Charlie Bear, I remember this guy had me stumped a long time ago. He's actually lost a lot of that colour now and is pretty much back to a white.

Basically he was originally kept in horrid conditions, fed the wrong foods that kinked up the bone formation on a leg, stunted his growth and all that orange is musk over production staining his fur bright orange.

There's another rescue ferret on FB with the same thing going on with his fur. He is originally white, although the owner claims no, but through his updates, I notice he is getting paler and paler. This ferret doesn't seem to have bone issues though. I think it's an abnormality in their musk glands that go into over production to where it will stain their coat. All animals will have some individuals with skin or oil issues that may make odd colours, and this seems to be one for ferrets.

I noticed every time I come across these flame coloured guys, it's usually albinos and DEWS and they are usually rescues from someone who fed them bread and milk sops or something else horrible - so far at least. If it was a legitimate coat colour then breeders and the show ring would have already recognized it and it would be a more prolific colour in ferrets.
(I gotten in a lot of fights with people on FB who have these musk stained ferrets who parade them as if they're a shiny Lugia LOL)

Oh wow!

That is VERY interesting. and How sad!! And THIS is why I wanna kick PetCo ass! They should be reminding ppl. that like any pet, the babies grow up fast. And I'd say that 75% of owners outgrow the ferret as the baby cuteness give was to delightful adults. I don't know how many ferrets with all their cages and accessories are being kept in garages and then get posted on CL with poo piles eeping out between the bars of the cage!!!! And they have the arrogance to ask for $300?! If nothing else, $25 if not FREE. They obviously don't care! Gawd!

Hubby was convinced the ferret C.Bear was dyed with that fancy pet/poodle dye. I just assumed it was some sort of really super rare genetic condition that is so rare, it actually makes that 'color of ferret' undesirable because it was coupled with a genetic flaw. (Like down syndrome, but for ferrets.)

I totally believe you too. You know your sh_t!! People in FB flame cuz it's easy to post. Meanwhile, the 'fancy' ferret is being dragged around, instead of regularly seeing a vet to check on it's health.

Yeah I'm going to petco on Sunday if nothing bad turns up lol. The car is sucky but we got in fixed a few days ago. I am hoping to educate people who come over and ask questions about Avy and see how good of a giant chunk he is lol!

I hate that Craigslist is full of ferrets and they ask for 300$ and some make some downright INSANE stories too! Like an albino was "wild caught and tamed and breedable" but had a very visible Marshall's tattoo in the pics. Utter bullshit. They were asking for about 400$ for it! It's crazy what people will do to give off ferrets. I think there should be stricter animal sales on CL, at least an adoption fee that's proper and reasonable! I know people do free ones too, but lately there's an uproar on free animals because street dog fighters are grabbing up free animals on CL as bait, so now I put kittens I foster up around 40-60$ adoption fee.

I'm no expert on breeds and mutations either, but I've heard of a ferret morph called ''harlequin'', which is not presented here.
I'm not sure if they go by several names, though.

I'm loving all the informative stuff you've been putting up lately, both the colour charts and the updates on the dirgehowler species.

I think Harlequins go by other names as I have noticed each country has different names for specific ferret colours. Like the UK and Europe calls their greyish ferrets "Silvers" and we in the U.S used to do that, but now they are divided into two versions, Roan and Black Roan for what others call the Silver. UK/EU also refers to masked ones are Polecat Types and the US calls them sables but we have Sable Masks and Sable Points lol. They call their tan ones Sandy and we call them Champagne. The UK claims Cinnamon ferrets exist but somehow Americans claim true cinnamon genes are no longer in existence (I don't know why... I don't think genes just disappear lol)  I'm sure the Harlequin may be what we call a Mutt here, a coat of random patchies that are darker on a white undercoat perhaps ?

And thank you I will be having more informative posts coming in recent weeks hopefully. I start work soon but it being an agreeable and nice schedule I ought to do fine with time

The sable and the Blaze are my favorites.

But why does the sable look like the  masked one? Is it my computer screen messing with the values? lol

I reused it. The sable on the list is already in the Masked so I just readded it in for the Pattern section.
