Description F--k yeah, snowy owls! This year juvenile snowies have been seen all along the east coast, due to a large crop of chicks and not enough food in the arctic for them over the winter. They migrate in search of food in such times. Before I took these photos I'd read that people were seeing these magnificent birds EVERYWHERE in Biddeford Pool (one person reported six birds counted in one sitting), so naturally my boyfriend and I went on a serious business birding expedition. It did not disappoint. We counted three or four individuals, and of course I got plenty of photos.

I never in life would have imagined I'd get the opportunity to photograph such an exotic bird of prey. They truly are magnificent animals.

Biddeford Pool (which, incidentally, is the area I was born in), Maine USA.

I know the snowies have been visiting the farms across the hollow from my house... still haven't seen any on our side, though.
