Subject: A ridiculous looking moth (Saturniidae)
Location: Yanayacu, black-light (used to attract insects)


One of those things that just doesn't look real.
But yes... those ARE its natural colors.

It looks like a Rose Maple moth, like on my little icon. Very beautiful.

Body/leg colors are similar, but not the wings. Both cute species for sure!

Those are the real colors - but it was attracted to the research station by a black-light setup. An entomologist's favorite device! We saw a LOT of cool moths and beetles that way.

Wow! I knew some moths had sparkle-dog colors on their wings, but that their bodies were that wild - I never knew. Cool!
