This looks a very realistic setting of the first European war.
I would like to see things like this of the battles in the second European war as well.

I wish that this is how Valkyria Chronicles was actually like. I mean, I like the game and the anime and all, but they are just.... too cheerful, while at the same time, trying to explore the more serious themes such as racism, genocide, the disregard of life that the military's higher echelons have toward common soldiers, etc.
I have a personal fan theory that the events as depicted in the first game was all in-universe post-war propaganda produced by the Gallian government. After all, the story was told from a book written by a reporter who worked for the Gallian state radio.
I mean, just look at the facts: The Gallian militia consist almost entirely of 17-25 year old conscripted civilians that are expected to take heavy causalities, even using child soldiers in as young as 12 in front line combat. While characters such as Susie is clearly suffering from serious PTSD due to lacking the mental fortitude to handle combat, can should have been serving as a nurse or a medic instead.
This leads to the conclusion that the Gallian government was effectively scraping the bottom of the barrel, engaging in desperation drafts to throw the flowering youth of their nation to drown the Empire in their blood, USSR in WW2 style.
This is some prime grimdark material right there that deserves to be explored in a fanfic.

If only the game was actually like this.
Not to mention it would've been cooler if it was like the movie "Full Metal Jacket" where you started as a private in Boot Camp, and you get to choose your occupation depending on performance in training.
Also, they should've made it more like a Rainbow Six/ Brothers In Arms type game where it's more of a tactical shooter with RTS elements.

Well, personally, I have always interpreted the ridiculously rapid rate of promotion of the main characters (Take Alicia, for example. Upon joining the militia, she was given the rank of sergeant right away. While in the present day US military, it will take at lease 3 years) as an unspoken sign of just how much front line causalities the Gallians were taking (Think the average life expectancy of a solider in WW2's Eastern Front).
