Description It's been a long time coming; a very very long time, but here she is. Josie.

It's been... oof, probably a year or more since I last drew Josie, my very first character; and the one I probably hold dearest to my heart, So I decided it was high time I got her out again, and here she is.

Josie's a 'Halfen' an unusual cross-breed race which is probably easiest to define as half-dwarf; when a human and Du'ahn (Dwarf) parent conceive; instead of a true half caste child; a halfen is created; Du-ahn genes will not mix with those of other species; and instead, they mutate, causing an offspring which is neither human nor Du-ahn, but Halfen. Josie is one of those. They posses the almost bovine shaped ears, and have a similar short stature to their Du-ahn parents, but lack their unusual skin markings, and hefty musculature, instead being pleasantly soft and chubby. Like any other child, they inherit their hair, skin and eye pigmentation normally, through chromosomes.

Halfen lack the warlike tendencies, or the mechanical aptitude of their Du-ahn forebears; instead being curious, intellectual, and quick witted. They have an excellent sense of humour, and tend to make very good teachers, scribes and writers.
They also make capable Explorers, their natural inquisitiveness combined with an in-built toughness and developed immune system; make them well suited to exploring old ruins and lost civilisations. Few Imperial expeditions leave base without a Halfen or two.
Halfen, of both genders are often highly sought as 'companions' for more intelligent clientèle.

Josie, in keeping with the usual Halfen traits, chose the career path as a librarian, and, having left university with excellent grades; became an expert on Ancient Elveen civilisations and Languages; working for the Imperial Reliquary museum. She was later attached to an expedition to the lost city of 'Tam'an-un' where she caught the adventuring bug; and later became a noted explorer in her own right.
Bookish, 'nerdy' even, Josie is over enthusiastic, amiable, and LOVES tea.

(TLDR She's a short, pudgy half dwarf who likes books and tea.)

Well Excellent! It's always very very nice to hear that from someone.

Anything in particular that's inspiring? So I know what to do more of in the future?

Nothing specific. I just like seeing original stuff on DA. You are an original

Well once again, thankyou very much; I really do appreciate the kind words, never really thought of myself as all that original though!

She dresses like a proper Victorian lady (right down to the love of tea!) is a librarian, and has big feet that she likes decorating with anklets and toe rings...

Yep. I'm in love.~

Awww, isn't she just the darndest thing?

Yeah, not sure what the whole barefeet and jewellery thing's all about. I considered making it a racial trait for some reason, but I dunno.

Glad you likey anyway!

Sure do! Barefoot with jewelry is always win. And Victorian fashions are just part of my fetish love of all things British.

You're damn right it is!

I see a foot without jewellery, and it's like looking at an unpainted wall. Pretty damn interesting, but could be faaaaaar better.

Shite metaphors aside; Victorian outfits are really nice; especially the stuff that women wore; you just have to be prepared to draw a shit-tonne of frills, lace, ties and crumply bits.

Its so labour intensive.

It sure does. Plus it's a nice change from modern clothing.

Why thank you!

Superheroes can fly through the air, shoot eye-lazors, and do other amusing shit.
Me, I can draw feet.

AAAAAannnyway.

I've not been very able to work on your request; I'll get round to it in time. It's hard enough to do my own work at the moment

Well, I dunno really. It depends if I can get some time where I can just sit down and draw stuff.

Well, it'd be pretty difficult to hang out to be honest, since we're on different sides of the atlantic And I can't fly.

O.O That is the classiest drawing I've ever seen you do.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

WelderFace In reply to TheEliCash [2013-01-16 10:07:42 +0000 UTC]

Well, oddly enough, she's only really sort of working class I suppose the classiness comes from the fact she exists in a victorian styled era.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheEliCash In reply to WelderFace [2013-01-16 11:48:18 +0000 UTC]

That and the way you did the overall design and the use of positive and negative space; even though you didn't use colours you still made it look nice with the scroll effect.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

WelderFace In reply to TheEliCash [2013-01-16 11:52:11 +0000 UTC]

Positive and negative space... I only briefly touched on those in College.... Which part of this drawing involves those two?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheEliCash In reply to WelderFace [2013-01-16 18:01:32 +0000 UTC]

The silhouette of the drawing itself perplexes me; while I'm not surprised you have added curves to your female figure (always a plus), you have also added a bit of "bounce" to her hair and outfit, which is definitely a must for a Victorian setting. All I'm saying that this is something to impress.

WelderFace In reply to TheEliCash [2013-01-16 20:25:31 +0000 UTC]

Ah! I see what you mean now ^^

Yeah, the hair's an integral part of her design; I wasn't sure how it'd look with such a defined outline, but I reckon it's paying off a little. The figure, well, I just like drawing people

WelderFace In reply to vralok [2013-01-16 10:08:24 +0000 UTC]

Well, she's pretty, well normal, I suppose; I think everyone would dress like that; well, the women anyway. I suppose it'd be all bowler hats and braces for the chaps.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

vralok In reply to WelderFace [2013-01-16 13:22:20 +0000 UTC]

hehe but bowler hats are clasy and a monocle dosent hurt either ;D

WelderFace In reply to vralok [2013-01-16 20:25:52 +0000 UTC]

Well, maybe not monocles, since they are soooo impractical it's not even funny

Thanks very much! The clean lines are finally paying off!

And if I may, a few words of advice. Avoid Ruffles. They're so much. EFFORT

But I think they look nice, so I'll be having a go at them in the future again!
