I'll have to say, being an amateur writer and used to prose, the detailed monologue did not seem out of place. But by looking at the two pictures side by side I can understand why you wanted to change it.

As a critic you need to distinguish what dialogue works as literature (narration) and what works as thoughts within a comic. And I feel the few first balloons contain too much descriptive/narrative dialogue that no normal personal would thought in a situation like this. Many comics add squares to contain narrative dialogue that distinguish them from thoughts balloons.

I really like this kind of internal monologue. How she tries to rationalize what's happening to her but keeps getting interrupted by the surges of the transformation.
