Description Name: Ethan Burke

Age: Mid-twenties

Occupation: Gravedigger/handyman

Skill-set: Manual labourer/fixer

Personality: Churlish and ill-tempered, Burke tends towards sulking. His tongue is sharper and quicker than it probably should be and often gets him into trouble. And because he doesn’t get along well in conflicts or fights, this isn’t a good thing for him. An innately rational individual, if there is someone giving the advice “we should sit tight; someone has to do something about this eventually” it’s probably Burke.

He has the usual fears of death and dismemberment one would expect, but this generally won’t stop him from going into a dangerous situation for someone else’s sake, though usually only because he can’t stop Shak from going. Doesn’t make friends easily and so is eager to hang on to the one he has. Reasonably sympathetic and conscientious towards people, even if his attitude doesn’t always show it. Eager to encourage harmony in a group, even if someone might deserve a kicking. Precise and neat, not quite to the point of being obsessive. He is often the voice of dissent for plans that aren’t well thought out or which seem too dangerous to be worthwhile.

Allegiance (if any, e.g. Umbrella): To himself and to Shak. Not really to anyone else.

Appearance: Average height at 5’8”, he is lean and slender with minimal fat and muscle. His blond hair is usually messy as his job doesn’t have much of a customer-facing element. He has grey-blue eyes with deep bags under them as his hours vary a great deal. He can’t grow decent facial hair, so stays clean shaven.

Outfit(s): Burke wears a blue coverall for work, which is invariably always covered in dirt from his digging. During the warmer months, he ties the sleeves around his waist rather than wear the top. He wears a t-shirt or vest underneath, depending on whatever is clean. He wears heavy work boots, usually also muddy.

Strengths: Burke is used to manual labour, so he is strong enough for most day-to-day tasks. He has a lot of experience with jury-rigging solutions for things being broken around the graveyard, so he is competent with electrics and fixing things with tape. At a push, he could probably fabricate weapons if needed. Having had lots of odd jobs, Burke has picked up rudiments of a lot of different skills. Has good problem-solving abilities and is good with work-arounds. Sensible and rational, he thinks things through logically before progressing. He also has Shak to batter through things for him and to give him a sense of drive that he wouldn’t have alone. Sympathetic and diplomatic, can usually put the needs of a group ahead of his own.

Weaknesses: Burke tends to overthink things and this can mean it takes him a long while to act. He is also no good with conflict, which leaves him vulnerable. Though he will defend himself, he is not naturally good at it. His tendency to be sarcastic and churlish can rub people up the wrong way. He quickly loses motivation without Shak around.

Romantic Interest: None.

Relationship to other OC’s: Shak’s “wife”, their relationship errs on the side of being romantic but with no sexual connotation. Captain Sean Dresden of the RPD is his father; Burke doesn’t get along well with his father, despite the fact that his father is very reasonably and supportive.

Background: Burke was born in Raccoon City to Sean and Olivia Dresden. He has a brother a couple of years younger than him. Sean was, at that time, a Sergeant with the RPD. He dedicated himself almost completely to his work and while he was lucky to have a very understanding wife, Burke did not understand as much. Burke considers himself to have been raised by his mother exclusively and blames his dad for what he perceived as his mother’s constant sadness and loneliness.

This was exacerbated by her early passing shortly after Burke enrolled at Raccoon University, an event that he was dragged through by Shak, who pestered him so much he could never stay miserable for very long. Burke’s falling out with his father was typified by his decision to take his mother’s maiden name rather than keep Dresden as his surname. Dresden was hurt by that, but supported his son, primarily because he blamed himself for not being there for his wife. Burke’s brother left Raccoon City to travel the world and find himself, a decision that rubbed Burke up the wrong way and smacked of his father’s own “irresponsibility”.

Burke graduated Raccoon University with a Masters in Economics, but wouldn’t leave the city because of Shak and, to a lesser extent, his father. In actuality, it was probably more because of his father, since Shak would have left with him if he’d asked. Unable to land a stable job, he moved through a series of odd jobs over the next couple of years, despite his father’s insistence he would find him a job at the RPD if he wanted it. Much to Burke’s annoyance, Shak took him up on that offer instead, since the two of them get along really well.

Burke owns a small apartment in Raccoon, which he bought with his inheritance. It has two rooms, in case of house guests.

Any misc information: Burke sings and plays the guitar, but not with company.

I never really knew what to do with Burke until I realised that he was the other man. The counterpoint to Wesker on pretty much every count. So now where you find Shak and Wesker you also invariably find a Burke as well.

I'll be honest, I like Shak and Burke more than I like Shak and Wesker. Or Wesker in general, come to think of it.

I can't help but agree with that, Burke is alot less dangerous for Shak compared to Wesker, and I can't help but love their dynamic...Burke is literally anti-wesker I think.

I like the juxtaposition between a man who only has her best interests in mind and endorses all the best parts of her, like her charitable nature and her desire to do the right thing, versus one who wants her murderous and angry and without mercy, because that's what he wants from her. I suppose the major difference is that Burke is concerned with her, while Wesker only cares about himself, as usual.

This is true XD and that would be the major difference.  Wesker doesn't care about anyone but himself.
