Description
Dark room, laughter in every corner
Someone is singing children's songs in the darkness
The air is empty and dry, no wetness at all
But I don't notice any of that.

Instead I feel her hand in mine
as I lead her through the dark.

She can't see and seems to be shaking
Her skin pale compared to mine in this room.
She doesn't question me even as I lead her through obstacles
But it's okay, she trusts me even as we play
Trying to win such a horrifying game.

I start laughing and cracking jokes
Her eyes are wide as she tells me sweetly to, "Shut up!"
As I notice a flicker of light around the corner
I tell her softly to lie down to keep hidden.
If we crawled to the corner then we could easily escape
When the others come looking we'd just slide off to the side
and make our way out without them even catching a glimpse
But she still looks so scared so odds are I won't do it.

Even though this is my favorite game
Even though I hate to lose.

Once we win the game I take her hand once more
Leading her away into the darkness
Making sure she doesn't go near the ledge she's so afraid of.

Then her hand slips from mine and she's gone.

I can't help but freeze... but it's not really a big deal.
I kind of figured she'd slip from my grasp
Those soft cold hands are gone now and she's laughing
So I calmly sit beside her and don't say a word.

She's not mine to hold onto or mine to control.

I am just a person who can see clearly in the dark
The one who guides and keeps us hidden
The girl who is unable to understand the rejection.

Yeah, that's me, and it kind of hurts.
