Description I LOVE DOTS.

Faraway and Siyolo are essentially golems. They started life as statues, guarding the tomb of a much-beloved king and over many years, were given 'gifts' from a number of sorcerers: sight, hearing, speech, limited movement and finally, life and magic gifts of their own: Faraway, the gray stallion, commands water and cold; Siyolo, the flying mare, handles fire and heat.

They also share a truly epic romance, spanning centuries.

Other characters in the series:

Ug! Stipple! It pains me to even think how long it would take me to just attempt a feat like this! Quite elegant in the extreme though and you can just feel the movement come off the page. And I don't know how you did it but who knew leopard spots could look so good on a unicorn! Guh! (grabs cane and waddles off grumbling under his breath)

Heh, just found this comment.

Nevermind how long it takes to accomplish... it kills pens like a three year old with a fresh pack of Sharpies and a blank wall. D:

Oh his spots look nice here. I have trouble blending the dappled-ness of his horsey parts and the snow leopard spots when he's in colour. Grrr. Colour... my arch-nemesis!

O__O And dots love you.

This is GORGEOUS!! *faints* Seriously, their two poses and their contrast together just is so amazingly epic and fluid! My goodness! And I love the story behind them.

And the mare's head. It's so beautifully shaped.

Thank you!

Oh thanks, hooray! I'm for shit at drawing delicate Arabian-type heads which is what she's supposed to look like. Give me a big blocky Percheron anyday.

Damn. Your black and white work continues to be utterly gorgeous. Who needs color?

Wha? I never though you were crap at coloring. Where is this coming from?

I don't like my colouring. I feel it flattens or dumbs down my pictures a lot of the time. Black and white is more eloquent but I REALLY like colour! I just gotta learn to use it to my satisfaction.

...tips?

*chuckles* You ask me as if you haven't done five million times more art than I have. My best suggestion would be to take a few paintings whose coloring you really like and try to reproduce them.

Hmmm But I do see your point when you put it that way. Your black and white work is so strong that unless you're equally strong in coloring, you'll always think 'I could have done that better without color.'

You stipple! OMG I'm in awe. This reminds of some of Virgil Finlay's early works.

I love the contrast in light and dark and the way it was achieved GOD! I wish I had that patience. I think stippling is one of the most visually impressive ways of shading ever.

The black horses hair is also great. The more illustrative and graphic swirl of mane really adds visual oomph!

Fuck I love Virgil Finley! I've got a whole stash of his work on my HD! That's a huge compliment, thank you!

I find stippling really calming, like meditation. It is a lot of work but the end result is very rewarding.

Dots! @.@ The contrast of texture here is a delight to behold. The grey has so much form in contrast to the elegant silhouette of the black winged mare. Its another awesome black & white that drives me to distraction @.@
