I really wanted to comment on this earlier, kept getting distracted. I really like the shading, it looks very clean and meticulous. Is the background pencil, too or digital texture? I really like the texture on the horns, too, though I think the transition between horns and skin is a bit harsh. It might have looked more natural if there was some of the base showing under the skin.
There's one other small thing that bugs me - her right eye is a bit higher than the other one. It sure gives her an interesting look actually. Which is another thing that I really like about the portrait, it has a sort of compelling expression that I find very intriguing.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment! Making eyes evenly aligned has always been my nemesis. I should just draw everyone as a pirate, haha. The background is pencil - I wouldn't know how to do anything digital even if I wanted to. I'm glad you like the piece and thanks again for the feedback!

Hehe, the "other eye syndrome"? So many people seem to complain about it Do you use any construction lines when you're starting out? How do you approach face drawing?
That's even more impressive if it's a pencil, I thought it was a digital texture or something. It looks super nice, sort of cloudy and interesting. I'd really like to be able to get that kind of texture. How did you achieve it? Did you use circular strokes or short hatching or...?

I just filled in the area with sketchy hatching and then rubbed it with a blending stump til it was nice n' misty. Nah, I don't use construction lines, even though I've learned them and probably SHOULD use them... Buuuuuuuut, I don't. It just feels better to freestyle it, even if it doesn't always come out better, ha!

Oh, I see, a blending stump *writes down and opens google*
I don't really use them either, but more because I don't really know how to Which is probably why all my faces usually face the same directions Why do you feel it's better without them?

I'm not sure, I guess it just feels more organic? Less calculated? Although I do keep certain rules in mind, like how the outer corners of the lips should line up under the pupils, and how the outer edges of the nostrils should line up with the inner edges of the eyes... But I don't physically draw those lines on the page.

Yeah, those lines really help, but I find they can be misleading when you try more extreme angles because they shift a lot.
